GradedOnACurve
Haven't been here in a while. All I gonna say is fuck Chase Utley. At least the Mets split in LA. Hope for good things back in NYC.
Guest
that was some bulllllshit. how the umps could justify that call baffles me.

GradedOnACurve
Hope that 2 game suspension holds up so Mets fans will leave their batteries at home.
Guest
I'm shocked they suspended him. Figured they would have ignored it, because anything else admits how badly they botched the call
abovetheearth
he appealed it right? can't he still play until the after appeal ruling?
sacredheart
How did they botch the call? Tejada never touched the base and never tagged Utley. Tejada was also pulled off the bag by the throw, so the neighborhood play is thrown out since he had to go after the ball. Tejada isnt getting his throw to first in time to get Kendrick with his stupid mid air 360 even without Utley sliding into him. Utley only went off the field because he was called out, so why would he touch the base? The umps handled it right, and now MLB is backpeddaling because someone got injured on a takeout slide that has happened 100 times this season already without any suspensions. Was it a dirty slide? yes. Was it completely legal in the rule book? Yes.
abovetheearth
rule book. the soul of baseball is about unwritten rules so that in itself will always cause conflict. dude was so concussed he didnt know where the fuck his helmet went nor did he pick it up. but I love play from the 70's and 80's. that was some real ball. 3arl
Was it a dirty slide? yes. Was it completely legal in the rule book? No. "If, in the judgment of the umpire, a base runner willfully and deliberately interferes with a batted ball or a fielder in the act of fielding a batted ball with the obvious intent to break up a double play, the ball is dead. The umpire shall call the runner out for interference and also call out the batter-runner because of the action of his teammate. In no event may bases be run or runs scored because of such action by a runner" Obviously this is a judgement call and can't be reviewed. But it very easily could have (and should have) been called. Utley ran away from the base and targeted Tejada with the sole intention of breaking up a double play. That is against the rules and a double play should have been called. The issue here is it wasnt a batted ball, Tejada was fielding a thrown ball from a team mate, which isnt addressed here or in the rule book. Had Utley slid into Tejada while he was fielding a ground ball, then yeah, he is out, but that isnt what happened.
Guest
i still don't see any hard evidence that says the his foot didn't hit the bag. if the initial call was safe, and they stuck with it after review, sure. but there's no indisputable view that says he missed the base. which is what an overturn requires. If you go to MLB.com and go to video, search for "definitive" and it will give you the angle for every challenge that the NY crew used to determine. It is actually a pretty cool feature of the site. llamaface
EPIC. FUCKING. WIN. After the 2nd single in the 8th I got mad at myself for declaring (to myself) that the Astros had the game wrapped up. Never count out KC. Wow.
abovetheearth
it'll get a 3 second highlight reel tonight. can't wait to see the shows dissect Donaldson homeruns for a good hour. this one had me exactly like the wildcard game last year. win or lose Wednesday I'm glad we didn't roll over.
