tonight's game was just depressing.

Knuble with a stupid penalty, Giroux with a penalty for a rule I fucking hate, Carter missing so many chances.

I would like to personally thank Kimmo Timonen though, dude is a machine.

would also like to know why he got a 10 minute misconduct at the very end of the game.

i'd just like to add the only reason the pens have crosby, malkin, staal and fleury is because they sucked dick for so many years.

and what the fuck. the pittsburgh penguins. there aren't even any penguins in pittsburgh. what a stupid pansy name for a hockey team. sort of fitting.

Haha, you're a joke. Get a life.

There's some serious anger in this thread, I love it!

I love rivalries -- they need to put the Blue Jackets in the same division as the Pens.

I just got back from Ted Leo and the New Pornographers. Amazing show! New Pornos put on the best set I've seen all year.

Watching the game now on Pens replay. I missed the 1st period, it came on just as Guerin made in 1-1, naaaaaaaasty goal.

I love going on to losing team's message boards and just reading stuff. It's great how many times Flyers fans have called Crosby a whiner over the years and reading the stuff these morons post.

i don't get how you babies can cry bullshit on the last penalty... he slashed his stick in two, that's an automatic penalty. and a obvious one.

and crime, have you ever been to pittsburgh? we have a pretty famous zoo. ;D

Apparently he hasn't seen the Dan Potash commercials ;)

Glad to see you back in this thread Andrew.

Oh no, in my world the Flyers just scored, 2-1 :(

Did Gary Bettman make Carter get STONED on that empty net! Holy crap MAF!!!!

sadly this sport is dying.

to let pretty much everything go in this game and then with 4 mins left call a penalty on carter when staal grabbed his stick and cheated. that is so sad.

to have three penalties in OVERTIME.

i don't think gill should have been called (although if you are going to call carter you kind of have to)

I don't think staal should have gotten a penalty for running biron (but if you are going to call hartnell)

I sure as fuck don't think knuble should have been called (how sad that we all know the ref is trying to "even it up" in overtime....and equally sad that "tough guy" orpik with 13 hits falls flat on his face with a routine shove in the back in front of the net...all while staring at the ref.

and then that call on grioux in OT to give a team a 5 on 3 for over a minute and half just kills me. pathetic. back when the nhl was a real sport the only penalty that would be called in OT and especially for a 5 on 3 is a mauling during a scoring chance...like a killing.

and for the nhl to try and crack down on "message sending" by suspending a 4th line player and ignoring the message sent by gurien for jumping our 2nd best dman when it's already a 5 on 3 in a 4-1 game.

no suspensions against montreal, and i'm sure nothing is going to happen after that blues/canucks game)

this league wants to be the NBA. fuck the team, highlight the individual. highlight them with extended powerplay time, protect them with "no message sending". in a world where individuals get praised far too often i thought the great team sport of hockey would be safe. nope. i gave up on the NBA a while ago because of it, i'm giving up on the NFL because of it, and it sucks to see my love for this great sport lessen as well.

just a pathetic and almost scripted ending.

dude...the game was great until 4 mins to go in the third.

staal grabs carters fucking stick and fakes the hook - brutal call

a five on three in overtime??!?! are you kidding me? knuble was a dumb fuck for doing what he did but i still think orpik dove, he went down like he was shot from the stands. and the no call on staal for interference? giroux's penalty is fucking laughable.

10 years ago even if you killed someone i doubt there would be a 5 on 3. what a sham.

the game was really great until the later half of OT 1. Both teams had a lot of questionable hits and trips overlooked throughout the game, but even on the replays, that hook by carter looked legit. I haven't seen any youtubes of it, but from watching the game last night, I can't really see how it wasn't a hook. Same with the cross check to orpik. I mean, maybe it wasn't the hardest check to the back, but he had both hands holding his stick, using the stick to knock orpik down, which is exactly what cross checking is. Whatev, the flyers played such a stronger game last night until the OT. Hell, they played solid even after the tying goal in the 3rd. Its going to be a good game tomorrow in Philly.

1992 -- what's your point? Yeah it's been a while, but the Red Wings are like the Yankees of hockey -- so it's easy to root for the best. I've stuck w/ the Pens through the thick and the thin.

miketswidowspeak - staal acknowledged in the cbc interview after the game that carters stick barely grazed his hand.

Kirby Puckett - keep pretending it's only flyers fans noticing.

responses from TSN's page of the game:

Shutout18

I'm not a fan of either team but the refs at the end of that game were just horrible...

JoeyEatsAirplane

This was by far the worst officiating i've ever seen. I'm neither a flyers or penguins fan but in reality the flyers should have won this game. The officials pretty much gave pittsburgh the win.

Riders_n_Habs

not sure what the refs were doing at the end. Philly would have won this game on a level field.

mbrown3

Bunch of garbage. Shouldn't even have gone to OT. Last PIT goal was on a BS penalty that should have been on PIT for holding the stick. Then a 5 on 3 in OT? Seriously? Can anyone really say they don't feel the officiating is biased after this... More...

dallyd31

Not a fan of either, but the refs are a joke and a disgrace. This game, and the Habs/Bruins game. It's not the refs show. It's a shame when the refs try to influence the game and have an effect. A total shame and ruined a good game....sev..

Blueshirts94

As a Rangers fan i cant stand when we play in Pittsburgh because not only are they a solid team but the officials always seem to give them one power play after the other, on calls that are ridiculous, (orr 5 minute major for checking), whats even wor... More...

Refs gave Pitt this game. Even when Pitt commits the penalty, Philly gets called for it (like holding the stick = "hook" that led to Pens' tying goal, & in OT, Pitt's goaltender interference = Giroux's "slash" instead). League MUST get Crosby into finals. How would they make any $ otherwise? They'll do whatever it takes. Boo!

And so on:

whatever, my only real issue with the game is that the refs were letting most if not everything go and then called a really ticky tacky penalty with 4 mins to go.

I do agree with this. there were non-calls on both teams the entire night. not that the penalties were ticky tacky, just that if they were going to call a bunch of penalties all at once, they should have been calling penaltes all night

the red wings are not like the yankees of hockey. the red wings develop their talent (as has been mentioned previously in this thread) whereas the yankees just go out and buy it.

i've been a wings fan since i was a kid. everyone on my mom's side of the family is a wings fan and it was forced on me at a very young age. not my fault my favourite team has a legacy of winning.

my point was if the pens are such a great team why haven't they won a cup in 17 years?

for those who think giroux's was an automatic call

i hope you were watching the caps/rags game.

Backstrom breaks Staals stick on a slash, ovie gets the puck and hits the crossbar....and NO CALL. no call on a slash that breaks a stick that leads to a scoring chance, but a stick check in 4 on 4 overtime that has nothing to do with the play is an obvious call?

We're off on our comparisons to the Yankees/Red Wings -- I was just comparing them to a winning team, not how they acquire talent.

The Pens were a great team in the 90s and then they fell off, now they're great again. Not every team is consistently amazing -- very few are actually. So I'm not sure if I understand your point or not. Also, who cares? Why are you making such a childish point, haha. In that regards, the Flyers are awful because they haven't won a cup since the 70s.

I've been a Pens fan since a child (My aunt dated a Penguin back in the 70s and thus how my family got into hockey), so should I be sorry for being a fan of the team?

I don't get it. I should join Zak and stop posting here until this series is over, it's a little overwhelming how annoying you guys are. Go back and look at the posts from last years finals, I never got this upset when the Red Wings destroyed the Penguins.

Kunitz did not have the puck. So at the very least, Giroux could have possibly been called for interference. The fact that he was called for slashing doesn't really matter. It's not like he was clamping down on the puck carrier. It doesn't matter if it wasn't called in another game. Different officials, lack of consistency, whatever. It still should be a penalty.

As for the Knuble penalty. You can't tell me that if the situation is reversed and Orpik cross checks Knuble in the back, he wouldn't have gone down like a sack of potatoes. Orpik may have embellished, but the fact is Knuble made a classic cross check motion into Orpik's back. Coming out of the lockout, that is gonna get called every time. I don't know if you've noticed, but forwards don't get completely raped in the crease anymore like in the old days. I don't necessarily agree with it because it allows chumps like Hartnell to stand in the crease with virtually no resistance, but thems the rules.

Flyers fans love to play the victim.
