jpw
I'm just purely curious. over time I've seen/heard a lot of people make comments about victory records. I've been fairly out of touch with them since they stopped being a hardcore label and got in to more.. fashiony bands. Share your stories. cactusbot
Well, you listed one reason yourself. They are money grubbing trend hoppers who treat their bands like shit.
andrew13
i'm sure troymess may have some reasons here. i hate them because tony is one of the biggest dicks on the planet, signs new bands to like 5 album deals they can't get out of, then throws all kinds of shit at the wall and sees what sticks as far as trends go. every band to ever leave the label has had horror stories it seems like. also, they really don't have much that interests me, besides their ska stuff, of which catch 22 now sucks and i believe VGS are now free. which leaves streetlight as the only good band on there. murakami
they release a cd then release it with bonus material 48 seconds later
enjoyadrian
I liked Victory's idea for Thursday themed whoopie cushions.
patrick
Victory has been a shit organization for years now. Even back when they were perceived as a hardcore label, bands were getting fucked left and right. Personally, I have not bought a release from Victory since the Firestorm 7 inch. I did buy the Boysetsfire album and Full Collapse used. I guess the big thing for me is that for all the bitching that was done about major labels and their practices back when I got into punk rock, Victory has always been more major label than major labels. I truly believe that Tony is only interested in making money, and attempts to rip off as many people as he can to put money into his own pocket. jhulud
To me, Victory was a solid label up until the late 90's. I found that every release they had was solid and I dug most of the catalog back then.

Guest afsdan
i think the whole racist, sexist attitude coupled with intimidation and general bad business practices makes him unappealing to me. get the kid with the sideburns
cosmonaut
Victory has always been more major label than major labels. This sums it up nicely. Plus, 95% of the records they've put out in, say, the last decade have sucked.
xjustinxschwierx
let us not forget the Victory Records porno they produced in the late 90's with Snapcase and Earth Crisis songs and girls wearing said bands shirts. oh yes.

destroyingthescene
Whoa, what of this Victory Records porn? I'm gonna have to dig around the Net to find this puppy!
forgeagain
I don't currently, nor have I ever, owned a release from this label. I dislike Victory Records because they put out garbage, in my opinion.
jhulud
^^ You mean currently? Within the last XXX number of years? There have been some solid releases...but that was like a million years ago.
birdwell
dunno too much about Tony's whole deal...but I had a discussion w/ Tyler, Nick, and Sean (Bass player from their fist full length) from Northstar right as they signed w/ Triple Crown, they were (might still be) friends w/ the Taking Back Sunday kids (who were at the time freshly signed to Victory)...apparently Victory was looking at picking up N* as well and everybody in Taking Back Sunday had enough bad to say about Tony and Victory to talk them out of signing w/ Victory. Personally they last band I was really really into from this label was Grade...I dig Streetlight and BTBAM, but I really wish they were signed w/ another label
xjustinxschwierx
Whoa, what of this Victory Records porn? I'm gonna have to dig around the Net to find this puppy! you have to be under 25 to be not aware of this, they've swept it under the proverbial rug pretty well...but it was a monumental issue in the mid/late 90's when I started going to shows. heavyheavylowlow
As much as I hate Hawthorne Heights what Tony did to them in regard to making disgusting false statements on their behalf is my problem with Victory. That and the fact that he signed Hawthorne Heights in the first place. I'm one conflicted motherfucker.

I was pretty ignorant of hardcore in those days. But that's insane. I have a hard time seeing anyone in "hardcore" supporting porn.
flicker
oh, so on this board its ok to hate on Victory Records, but you cant apply that same logic to any other labels. confusing, y'all. i just want to fit in.
kurtz
Victory used to be one of my favorite labels. Then around 2002 they simply stopped signing bands that I like. BTBAM, Darkest Hour and Catch 22 are the only current bands on their roster that I am into. I just did a quick count of the Victory stuff that i have... - from 1994-2002, I own 64 Victory releases. - from 2003-current, I own 8 Victory releases. It really is a shame what this label turned into.
