monk0nuggets
So, I'm torn. At this point, I can't afford to do both 180 gram colored vinyl, and have gatefold jackets on super thick stock. Which would you rather see? Regular weight vinyl with ridiculous packaging, or heavy weight colored vinyl, with regular gatefold (a la VV-001, VV-002)? mcm1610
How thick is normal jacket stock? If it means cheaping out so much that it ends up the thickness of the last Rise Against album jacket or the Straylight Run 2xLP that can't hold a shape, I'd rather you cut the vinyl weight down, honestly. But if it's still decent quality jackets, I'd much rather have the heavier vinyl than a super-sweet, overly-awesome jacket.
adamlikesmusic
I don't care the cardstock thickness, just so long as it's an actual jacket with a spine. When browsing my records, I miss stuff often times because it has no spine. (Spineless!)
monk0nuggets
The jackets would be the same jackets I've been putting out. They are on a pretty sturdy medium stock. I'd like to upgrade to jackets similar to what Southern Lord put out. I absolutely love them, but they are fucking insanely expensive. sonix
as long as the record isn't on some insanely low weight vinyl, I say jackets

celebdeath
i'm gonna say jacket stock as long as the vinyl is at least 140g.
kyle
No question... vinyl weight. If it's on heavy vinyl and sounds good who the fuck cares if the jacket stock is 1 mil thicker? I can't believe so many people have voted against vinyl weight.

I can't believe so many people have voted against vinyl weight. Honestly I have never heard any difference in quality between something on 180 gram vs lighter vinyl. I've never did any extreme testing of this theory but it doesn't really make much of a difference in the end. Not that how thick a jacket is annoys me much either, i'm with adam, as long as the jacket spine is readable and not super slim. (the loved ones s/t 10" comes to mind for annoyingly slim jacket.) Guest adam526
The worst jackets I can think of are the ones where it's just one sheet and it folds over the record, it's fine for a 7", but not for a 12" Taking Back Sunday's Where You Want To Be comes to mind. deafmx
your first 2 releases looked awesome jacket wise so i don't see much of a sacrifice, especially since most labels don't even give a person THAT good of quality. i think your current setup is really working. Guest vito
If you end up keeping the 180g vinyl, just make sure you ship the records out of the sleeves, just to avoid a lot of angry emails if anything.
monk0nuggets
Yeah, I take all the copies that I number out of the jackets, but I can't really do much with the copies that are shrinkwrapped.
trainreck
vinyl weight. as long as the sleeve is at least decent quality and comes with a nice insert i see no reason to upgrade. the packaging of damiera and the 180g vinyl came out great so i would stick with that
forgeagain
You could just not get them shrinkwrapped. It's a waste of money and packaging. Just get them bagged.
Guest naytoid
I'd rather have a 180gram record than fancy packaging.
birdwell
when I'm looking for Vinyl releases, I'm purchasing for Music, not the artwork. if I want a nice print of some artwork, I'll purchase that by itself. Don't get me wrong here, I do enjoy nice packaging; but when push comes to shove, it's the vinyl quality I'm more concerned with.
