I initially was planning on just trying to resurrect out-of-print releases and licensing more recent titles that just needed to be on vinyl, but once I heard the following album, I was absolutely blown away and practically begged the band to let me release it on vinyl: The Felix Culpa's new album, Sever Your Roots, is 66 minutes and 14 tracks of absolutely gorgeous post-post-hardcore, with soulful vocals, head-spinning drumming and epic song structures with rhythmic twists and turns aplenty. Some good reference points would be Brand New, Thrice, Emery, As Cities Burn, mewithoutYou, Glassjaw and Engine Down. If you like one or more of those bands, you are going to love this thing. I'm absolutely thrilled to be a small part of its release. Sever Your Roots is being self-released by the band digitally and on limited-edition CD on January 23. I'll be handling the vinyl side of the release, although it should be made clear that this is their record, that they paid for and created themselves--I'm simply getting the honor of bringing it to a turntable as a high quality double LP. There will be 500 copies of Sever Your Roots total on heavyweight 140-gram vinyl, with 100 on black and 400 on clear. By the way, that cover is a photo -- that thing on the cover is real, about 8-9 feet tall and has been dubbed the Grand Champion. I think it's going to be onstage at the Metro.
