dancingpotato
what's the deal with this record? a record store in town here had this for 80+ dollars and I understand it was because the original cover was banned and only a limited amount were made. was it repressed with the original cover or would any copy of this with that cover be OG? brammyg
It was repressed with the "safe" cover and I bought that for like 13 bucks a year or two ago. The original press I can see being sold for that much, no surprise there.
kouka
i have an original banned cover press.. if you, ya know, wanna make me an offer
xadamhudsonx
I actually prefer the "safe" artwork to the banned artwork anyway.

thesupervillain
Does the one with the "safe" cover have New York City Cops on it still?

dreamover
I recently saw the banned cover at a local store for $24. I think there might have been a quiet reissue. But I'm not sure.

Guest markovianprocess
Is this the "banned" cover? They still sell this record with this cover in places like HMV in the UK for the normal pricing. It was never banned in the UK, only in the US as far as I am aware. I'd only ever seen that cover from reading UK music magazines my dad had. The general consensus being that if I can snap this up for under 20 bucks, I should, right? manicdogbert
Does the one with the "safe" cover have New York City Cops on it still? Nope it doesn't. i'm pretty sure the US vinyl pressing of the "safe" cover does have New York City Cops. the US CD has When It Started instead of NYC Cops. But not on the cover of that record (which doesn't have any pubic hair whatsoever).

jono
Hey guys i'm new to this forum.. I am a vinyl noob and have just gotten into collecting them. I recently ordered this vinyl (the European edition with the black and white cover) and it arrived today. When i played it i noticed that every song plays at a key higher than they should be playing at. Is this because it is the European edition or am I doing something wrong? I play it at 33 Rpm like it says to. Thanks in advance. I ordered it from here: http://cgi.ebay.ca/STROKES-red-vinyl-/150577669587?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item230f20e5d3#ht_500wt_1156

timsimmons
To be clear, the album cover was neer banned. They just changed it for the US release. Were they playing it safe? Probably (especially after taking off NYC Cops). But nothing was banned.
tomservocrow
All original copies of the U.S. press have the safe cover. Pretty sure no U.S. copies have the hand to ass cover.
rocknroll76
really? i can't believe i just got scammed. Don't get bummed, man. I'd just say to research a little on what you're about to buy in the future. Many people have been burned a little bit now and again. Also, welcome to the board! Derek™
Agreed. A whole different story than some of the lol / fail posts I was expecting. I also had no idea that a bootleg copy existed. Odd. Either way; definitely unfortumate news... but I welcome you aboard, regardless.
