I'm likely a bit older than some of you and have a lot of records.

Most of them are black vinyl. Thats how it used to be, for the most part.

I have a few colored vinyl LPs and even some colored 78s and 45s but honestly

I always looked at it as a marketing strategy by the record companies more than

a sound quality factor or some other technical benefit.

They look cool on the turntable, that much is clear.

Black looks even better if it goes with the album art.

I think this looks awesome together.

Yes, that is true. Although the original label didn't look so good:

I still think the label is the most important piece of a record's aesthetic.

I think the old label was the default Reprise label on records.

lol @ people saying certain colors sound better than other colors

I'm pretty sure I've seen vinyl experts talking about how virgin vinyl will sound better. Vinyl is basicly clear but black additives are added to make it last longer. So without making a very long post about it, clear vinyl should be the best sounding then after that it's black because of the special additives.

Too bad I can't find my sources back.

I'm guilty of getting caught up in the colored vinyl craze lately- especially swirls- will go outta my way and pay more for any color variant over the black pressing. just makes it a little more fun I guess. I wish they'd start making heavy-weight picture discs so they might sound as good as non-picture discs.

Speaking of colored pressings, anyone know anywhere selling Fu Manchu's In Search Of in blue?

Before I sold my variants last week, I listened to them all very closely to see which one sounded best so I could keep the best sounding one.

I found that black did sound the best.

I also found that there was no relationship between color and sound quality amongst colored vinyl. However, where in one pressing clear green was the weakest, in another clear green was the strongest.

I believe that it is not the color that determines a record quality, but other factors. If you were to press 10 records in a row, it is possible that some will sound better than others.
