Thrice is not breaking up. If nothing has broken us up by now, I doubt anything ever could. However, we will be taking a break from being a full-time band, and the upcoming tour in the Spring will be the last one in the foreseeable future. Playing music for the past 13 years with Riley, Ed, and Teppei has been such a gift. We have been able to see the world, share music with thousands and thousands of people, and make records with a variety of talented and inspiring people. The four of us have been through many highs and lows and overcome them together. I value their friendship, and it has been a great priviledge to play alongside them for so long. They are truly an amazingly gifted group of people, and the ways we’ve grown together as people and musicians has been a joy to experience. Along the way we have adapted to many changing situations, especially the growing families of both Teppei and myself, but it has been harder and harder for me with each step. I have three little girls now under the age of 5, and it is a huge strain on my family and I when I’m away for several weeks at a time. The way we’ve been doing things for a while is simply not sustainable for me anymore. I don’t know what the future looks like for Thrice, or for any of us individually. I do know that I would love to make more music in the future with them, as well as play some shows or short tours, but for the time being, I need to step out of the role of full time touring/recording musician, and will do so after this tour. I will continue to make music in various capacities I’m sure, and continue in my work as a Worship Director at Mars Hill Church in Orange County. I know this will be very disappointing news to many people, and for that I am truly sorry. The amount of support and love we’ve been given in our career is staggering and overwhelming. I know I’m biased, but I think we have the best fans in the world. This upcoming tour should be a lot of fun. We are planning for it to be somewhat of a celebration of the last 13 years and I’m sure we’ll be breaking out a bunch of songs that have been buried in the archives. I hope to see you out there to celebrate with us. I never expected to be able to do any of this, let alone do it for 13 years, with such amazing bandmates, such gifted and hard working crew and management, and such incredible and loyal fans. Thank you all.

I love this band but the last couple times Ive seen them its been pretty boring. Left early both of the last 2 times.

When I just saw them with La Dispute a couple weeks ago out of their first 10 songs, 8 of them were off the new album. Not a band album or anything but come on!

That being said, I will definitely catch them on this Spring Tour!

then you missed phoenix ignition and to awake and avenge the dead in the encore.

i like all their albums, i just dont like hearing the newer stuff as much live. i think dustin looked bored playing older stuff though.

I love it all. Was with them from Identity Crisis on, and they have never disappointed. Just saw them at HOB Anaheim twice, and both shows were great, but I am biased.

This news really sucks, but I understand why they are doing it.

It would be epic if they played Identity, Illusion and Artist in their entirety. It's about 2 hours. Is that too much to ask for? Just one more play through them since we have all heard all the new stuff live now.

Yea I heard they played a couple older ones after I left, oh well. Ive seen them plenty of times back in the day when that was all they played. Ill go to this next tour just hoping they play a bunch of old stuff. The Alchemy, Beggars and Major/Minor stuff is just so boring live.

Dustin definitely looked bored playing the 2 songs I saw off Artist and he sang them differently.

They always play earth will shake..I'm excited for this spring tour especially since it sounds like they my go chronologically through the albums or something bits from each which sounds awesome to me.

Uh, what?

Doesn't this seem like a logical step for him or am I missing something. His lyrics have always been deeply rooted in biblical themes, since their first album. I don't think he's ever hidden the fact that he's been a practicing Christian. While the band is not a Christian band it still had plenty of songs that had that focus maybe people just couldn't see that.

They have always been a very Christian band without really branding themselves as such. The first time I saw them was probably about 10-12 years ago in a church recreation room playing with my friends band. I didnt even know who Thrice was at that point. Apparently it was only like the 3rd show they had ever played.

Plus Dustin released a Christmas album. Not too shocking he would continue to work at a church while the band is on hiatus.

this is why people need to own physical copies of records and/or CDs....

it's usually pretty unmistakable if you read the thank you lists in the albums... that being said, this band has been boring for a long while so, like any other band, in 4 or 5 years they'll do a reunion tour, rake in cash, get back together and put out a new album and then be a band again.
