How many openers did they have?

It was just Silent Land Time Machine, which (unless I'm mistaken) is a solo project of one of the TWDY members.  We had a little trouble getting our group together and showed up just as his set was ending, so I can't give any opinion in it sadly.

I've never seen TWDY live - would love to one day (with my Etymotics).

I'm really glad I brought mine, it was pretty loud with them in.

Re-read the entire thread to avoid another boneheaded double-post, but I gotta give love to this new Tides of Man album. This is freaking superb. I saw a blurb from Don about this going into his "good but have enough of this" category but this is reeeeally hitting the spot for me. I feel like I do hear elements of a lot of bands I like but it all culminates perfectly.

Give it a listen if you haven't yet.

Looks like there is some vinyl coming out soon (there's a thread started already, which led me to check this out.)

Unless it soars like the mighty Caspian or Giants, my tastes seem to be gravitating to heavier side of things in the post-_______ realm.

But  there are also groups like Beware of Safety or (sadly defunct for now) Gifts From Enola, who manage to create a new sound with each release that happens to be in a direction which tickles my ears. Love it when that happens.  Admittedly, sad when it doesn't but shouldn't be.

I love The Mercury Program (recording last year ? when will release), early Maserati, Signal Hill, and BoS Leaves and Scars (also recorded new album recently) -- but I think I can say, my vinyl bin is 98% full of this jazzy feeling subgenre. Maybe  ;)

For the record, as to how far behind I am, I still own no Mogwai on vinyl (or EiTS). Other things keep maxing out the budget and I know it will be there anytime. "Jim Morrison" is just dope and that's not on the heavy side at all.

Croquill just signed these fellas. looking like their picking up steam for some future great releases.

The Grasshopper Lies Heavy

(they are the first two songs on the split, which you can get here): http://texasisfunnyrecords.bigcartel.com/product/the-grasshopper-lies-heavy-god-townes-split-7-in-love

Crowquill and TGLH are currently working on a vinyl re-issue of their 2010 album "Every Man for Himself, and God Against All", due out early this summer. We've had the record re-mixed by Aaron Coker (Sisters of.) and it is currently being remastered by James Plotkin who's done work for Sunn O))), Earth, Pelican, ISIS, and many others.

Forgive me repeating myself, it deserves an all the way through for those who like TPSQ -- postrock (light, medium, heavy) and metal with excellent strings, especially that cello.

Sleepstream: "They Flew In Censored Skies"  https://sleepstream-music.bandcamp.com/album/they-flew-in-censored-skies

I should have delved deeper into Fluttery Records before now, since The Seven Mile Journey are one of my favorites (patience music), but the time has come - my next big project to tackle. Only thing I don't if they do vinyl yet?  I will buy all TSMJ back cat in a minute.

And for the very last time: Pet Slimmers new release made it to... VINYL, but...it's way too expensive. If they do ever press their 1st two, I will likely buy all 3 at once, but were looking at $32 just for the wax on this new 2xLP (which is a bit more mellow, but still very good), then ship from UK.

That's all for now.  After checking Jared's band out, I'll be in Fluttery for a while, but peeping  in to see if Mitau or Sisters Of... gets the wax treatment.

Has anyone brought this up yet? Grails+Slint=

http://temporaryresidence.com/artists/watter

Apparently Tony Levin from King Crimson is playing bass?

I read about that last week and didn't even think to post it, I dig the song quite a bit.  Temp Res is having a very strong year so far.

There's a thread in the big forum (edit here: http://boards.vinylcollective.com/topic/99431-coming-in-may-watter-this-world-slint-grails/?hl=watter )- really stoked for this - when TRL tweeted the article about Papa Bear playing on a track, I bumped the thread out of major enthusiasm.

Spiderland was 10 years after Discipline, and I realize Louisville, KY is pretty well cut off from civlization, the Slint kids were just teens, and that album revived *ahem* decent music, spurned new ideas, etc, but I took a lot of flak from the postrock community about Slint and Godspeed etc being influenced by progressive music scene.

They wanted quotes and personal testimonials and documentaries like Danny Carey with Tool pulling out his Discipline CD during a live interview (on Youtube) to prove this 'new' rock music with Classical instruments, longer tracks, odd time signatures, and not conforming necessarily to intro, verse , chorus, verse, ...etc. connecting them to groups like KC, ELP, Yes, JT, etc.

Like "poof", here's Godspeed, never anything even close to it before  - really they were saying this- and most were UK kids at that who said they liked Starless and Bible Black?!

I think this inclusion of Tony Levin is as close as a testimonial you're going to get for the indebtedness Slint owes to KC, et. al. and also, I give Slint and Albini major props for building upon + starting something new and very spesh  - in a different direction from the 2nd generation progressive (rock and metal) scene.

I'm definitely on the Watter, 100%!

New Collapse Under the Empire is up for preorder (sadly no vinyl). Love how these guys put out new stuff every year.

http://collapseundertheempire.com/shop/pre-order/

I just did a Revolvermann order to replace the copy of Fragments Of A Prayer of mine you got in trade before I'd even spun it!

Colaris / Ampersphere split in the /100 (Robotics has the /400 for $12.99. I do recommend this release, even the vocals of Ampersphere) and Ef Mourning Golden Morning as well.  Christoph is just great to work with on shipping rates and making deals for those of us outside Germany.

Will definitely look forward to listening to this when I get through some more Fluttery bands. Periodically C.U.t.E will offer free d/l's on their material. Talented duo, love their stuff.

This Will Destroy You's Christopher King solo project Symbol:

maybe more fitting for the ambient/experimental thread but with the TWDY connection I felt it might fit in here as well.

  • 2 weeks later...

Good call, Cholly! They run the spectrum from soft to heavy, predictable (but good) to unpredictable.  Enjoyed very much!. What is it with postrock and bears? lots of bears.  And birds on album art, too.

My hours in Fluttery land didn't turn up any major finds, but did enjoy hunting around their roster. Maybe one postmetal band (I their 'token' metal) was decent/ need to re-listen some more. 7's,9's and 10's or something like that.

And Sisters Of...  been re-visiting them every so often, and a couple of tracks have some great hooks that I catch myself earworming - the opener with the driving 4/4 syncopated/off-beat section that drops into Tool-esque bridge picking. That's a good one; and Circle 9 keeps beckoning me back as well.

Don't think I've seen this band posted yet.

My brother pointed them out to me today, & I think it's damn good. I think fans of ITTCT, Sleepmakeswaves & Collapse Under the Empire will dig it.

And if this was posted at some point, I apologize. I'm losing track of everything that's been posted.

Band is called Watered...and they're from Germany.
