If you weren't lucky enough to score Messa's new one "Close" on Bullmoose for $25, the label is doing a repress. Their previous label, Aural Music has RP Belfry 2xLP D side etched, and still some copies of Feast For Water LP. ( I know, $hipping)
Messa: Close bandcamp
Close on Svart Records
Messa: Belfry RP and Feast For Water LP

While we're on the subject of post-metal, that new Labirinto album is incredible. Just finished up my first listen and I know there's a tendency to get overhyped early but this is some of the best music I've heard out of the genre in a long time. All the right levels of energy, riffage, momentum, quality production, balanced vocals, etc... Seriously, don't sleep on this.

Nice heads up on getting Spurv from Canada. Ended up being $3US cheaper than ordering from the states, even with shipping.

Full stream available for the new Abstracter album. Even more brutal than the last one. I get to see them Saturday with Mortuous and Petrification. The brutality will be unbearable!

Emin from Azerbaijan (Violet Cold) has cranked out a Trilogy, Sommermorgen: Innocence, Joy, and Nostalgia, which is up on bandcamp now. It's a progression /slight divergence in direction from his previous material. I hear no black metallish elements whatsoever until the end of III with just a little blasteating going on. Happened to listen backwards, III, II, then I -- then in proper order.
FFO lots of reverb, delay, major chords and uplifting mood, some ambient postrock like earrly Hammock in the first two, chirping birds, etc. with occasional bursts -- and then by III we're getting some more intensity. Just a great listen all the way through while doing paperwork. I don't know if I'd be requesting vinyl, but I know I will continue to visit III. (I'd buy a tape to go with my Magic Night cassette *cough, cough*)
I guess that's why I posted. Didn't picture him going in this direction, and while not epic/game-changing, etc. the world seems to a better place with this release.

I haven't even had a chance to listen to the track, but I just bought it because AGALLOCH. Been waiting for a long time.

EDIT: Listening now. I like it on first listen. Definitely not Agalloch, though.

I stumbled on this album because I follow Unreqvited (Canada), who I discovered because they're on the same label as Violet Cold (Azerbaijan), and when the former posted it on FB I recognized the cover artist as a local (Colorado) that I've met a couple times and bought a few prints from. The internet is crazy.
But yeah, good album.

I love Om and High On Fire (and I never really thought I would) but there is no comparison between Sleep and those bands. Sonically, there are touches of Sleep in both bands but most of those bands' records have been consistently available (with a few exceptions) and there hasn't been the cultural mystery and fanfare for those bands as neither produced an album of as large of a landmark status that ended up being the bar against which a particular style has been held up to. Sleep have had a mythology of grandeur and rightfully so, I would say. The subsequent bands that were born from Sleep's break up are generally lauded and held in high regard by many but those same three guys aren't going to produce something that gains the status of Jerusalem/Dopesmoker on their own outside of the collective of Sleep as a band proper. They went on to form new bands under their own shadows.
Sleep as a specific group (even lacking the original drummer from their classic, most successful lineup) and their name carry an air of sanctity in their genre and among their fans new and old. I doubt they ever sought that status specifically by doing what they did but their output and the scarcity and limitation of that output only further imbues them with aggrandizement. They had two albums as Cisneros/Pike/Hakius. Holy Mountain was well loved and established a culture of "Sabbath Worship" and Dopesmoker was venerated and used as a rite of passage in the Doom/Stoner metal community. It was bootlegged and scarce and it was also a major feat of execution and creativity. Both albums were out of print or non-existant on vinyl for a long time as well. That's why the fanfare over Sleep is and will likely remain greater than it is for Om and HOF. And all that carries over into the present with the weight of their unlikely reunion in 2009 and subsequent tours and then the idea that a whole new album was a possibility spurned by the release of a warmly received single in 2014. Sleep has been an institution longer as well obviously. Their fanbase has been gestating with their material for a long time and I'd say they are more popular now than they've ever been.

I splurged on the $$$ /100 Gold to keep my collection complete. This one is going to be a grower like Origins, at least I hope so. H/E was much better out of the gate and I spin it more.
Watter are dope (I think I wrote that a few times here or some other thread). A super group making non flashy solid slow burner instrumental music. Most super group or collabs usually are let downs for me but Zak and Britt on the first album (along with Rachel Grimes and all-time hero Tony Levin) really just made some unique jams without too much Eastern twang that Grails can get a bit heavy on. Second album, sans Britt, but with some session peeps like Rachel again seems to be at least as good or better as I spin them back to back. The run out grooves on History of the Future skids on my turntable, so I have to be ready to push the stop button!
