Definitely remember this being a thing, especially at Tower Records, and especially for bigger releases. Your RHCP, Pearl Jams, Green Days, In Utero… I was too young to ever participate.

They’re sitting on an insane back catalog that, for a lot of it, hasn’t been in print in years, and they’re charging normal, across the board prices. Nothing’s up except gettin where the gettin is good.

Had bought an OG Buddyhead copy when it first came out in 2002 and sold it for about what it goes for now, probably 15 years ago. I’ve needed to replace it ever since, but fuckin $29? Eyyyyyyy.

I wish I had gotten on the Unwound train, which is where the conversation started, last year, and picked up the first colors represses. But yeah, I’m a fucking fool and not only would like to have a collection of awesome records, I like, but I would like them to look “cool” too. Rebuilding the box sets is perfectly fine, and feel the same as you. As long as jackets are identical, because the Bedhead and Codeine boxes are prime! I’ve just had trouble keeping up with everything and just not having enough cash to buy the color variants while other shit is popping up that’s more “pressing”. Definitely gonna kick myself when I try and get everything in the next year and it’s all $50-$75 each 🤦‍♀️ As for the Duster box, I slept in that day and fucked up! If I had the clear/smoke version, there’d be no reason for any other dabbling.

Outside of the Karate stuff, are all these confirmed? Chisel I can see having a box set, maaaaayyybe Rex, but everything else, I see as stand alone releases. Not too bad. But the Idaho stuff, I thought there was talks of someone else doing that? Or am I just drunk? I’m always drunk it doesn’t matter.

Goddamn Numero is fucking with me these last few years! I already have all the box sets and they keep repressing these color variants! I’m pretty sure Derek and I have discussed actual jackets versus something like the Unwound box set jackets, and whether to have multiple copies because of that. But I’m thinking about buying all these color variants and trading everything out of the box sets for these. Assuming jackets and everything else are the same as the box set copies. This thinking is a little late though, I should’ve started with the Duster color pressings(Tri color, etc.). I think those were the first standalone color represses of all the 200 releases.
