  1. You know, I was just saying to myself this morning as I woke up, "I wonder if THIS will be the day Three11 finally finds the red vinyl variant of Deftones' "White Pony" album. Glad we can finally put that to rest.
  2. Mar 11, 10:20 PM EST Kendrick Lamar Cancels World Tour BY DAVID S. SPUDNICK Associated Press LOS ANGELES, CA -- A spokesman for American musician Kendrick Lamar has today revealed the hip-hop star plans to cancel all future tour dates as he tries diligently to keep up with demand for his newly released vinyl record album, made available as a signed limited edition from the rapper’s official web store. “We originally were going to offer a mere two thousand” the 28 year old from Compton told the AP “but when the orders started pouring in, I felt I owed it to the fans that made me the success I am today to continue to autograph and all the kids out there who desire an autographed copy get their wish.” The pre-order count currently sits at 4.8 million copies, with a reported 30,000-40,000 additional preorders coming in per hour. A Top Dawg Entertainment spokesman has confirmed several addition servers have been added to their web store to meet demand for these signed copies. In related news, Mr. Lamar has also revealed he has scrapped any follow-up albums as he focuses his attention on working through the piles of albums still left unsigned.
  3. Amazing how fast the first 2k went and now the second 2k have been up for a couple of days.
  4. Ok, guys - to make it a little easier to read, I filtered out all the unnecessary reissues, gimmicky cash grabs and just plain crap. Here's the new list:
  5. The first rule of RSD is: you do not talk about RSD. The second rule of RSD is: you do not talk about RSD. Third rule of RSD: someone posts stock on eBay the night before, or flips from their smartphone while in line, RSD is over. Fourth rule: one copy per customer.
  6. The 311th copy of a crappy 311 record worth $3.11 but being sold for $4,999: http://www.ebay.com/itm/311-self-title-RECORD-STORE-DAY-180-gram-vinyl-NUMBER-311-one-of-a-kind-/231225113471
  7. All I'm saying is the original notion to sell music was a cash grab. It's a fact, there no denying that - they changed their original business model to something entirely different that would make more money. The fact that their name (Newbury COMICS) has been a joke all these years is testament to that. Did I say there's anything wrong with that? Did I say their 35 year existence has been a cash grab? No, I said neither of these things. Like throughbeingcruel, I don't understand why you're so hostile in your defense of them.
  8. In my opinion, there's a difference between "way early on" and "from the start." It's no secret the founders had no interest in music until they saw it sold better than comic books. Just because they came to that realization early on doesn't mean they weren't doing a cash grab.
  9. To be fair, Newbury Comics' cash grab is nothing new. I mean, the entire music portion of their business was a cash grab right from the start, having originally opened as a comic shop and realizing early on there were better profit margins in records and CDs.
  10. I see all the Muppets on the front sleeve, but where's Jack White?
  11. Yeah, but genetically altered peanuts are much less annoying than Brooklyn hipsters.
  12. I always assumed the label had some say in what they could price their exclusives at.
  13. This make sense to me and most of the board but I believe to chart the release would need to be new so those dollar bin (or 3 for $10) classics wouldn't factor into this. This is more kids buying Stones reissues at Urban Outfitters for $20, and choosing those "catalog" titles over any current releases.
  14. I know! Just check out the totally sweet Billboard Top 100 from twenty years ago this week: And just out of the Top 10 at number 11, The Gin Blossoms with "Follow You Down/Till I Hear It From You"!
  15. Looks like this is from a few weeks ago but I only just read it and don't seem to recall anyone mentioning it around here: LINK To be perfectly honest, I'm surprised this didn't happen years ago. Seems like reissues, old songs being featured in films and commercials, etc have been happening more and more lately.
  16. That box set is all anyone here talked about for a good portion of this decade... ...or maybe it was just for a couple of weeks. But it sure felt like longer...
  17. You know, after I read your post I looked up FYE's financial statement online totally expecting it to be a mess, but you're right - it's actually not too bad. They have very little debt and actually turn a small profit. Must be more of a market for Hunger Games pint glasses than I realized.
