Literally anything you are comfortable with being broken.

Smitty reacted to allenh in Child's First Record Player - Recommendations?
My first record player was one of my dads hand me downs with the caveat of if I broke it I learned to fix it myself, although that was around 4 or 5 so 2 does sound a little early for the school of hard knocks to start.
My own not so little girl (11) has known about music and hifi and record players since being a baby and although has always had her own system has never really shown a great deal of interest in having her own record player, which is something I have worried about constantly and sought medical advice about but fixed by buying myself more records and record players

Perhaps - and just perhaps - a rare instance where a Crosley is appropriate?

Only if the suns over the yardarm.
The great thing about being a member of the British Empire is that it's usually over the yardarm somewhere in the Empire. The bad thing is the Empire keeps getting smaller.

My girlfriend and I moved into a new place last month and I set everything up a few weeks ago after my new turntable came in. Sounds great!
Admittedly, I was using a Crosley prior to this. I bought it years ago (2005, 2006?) and it wasn't doing the job. I've been buying records since then, but couldn't sit back and enjoy them much because of the constant skipping and overall bad sound quality.. not to mention the damage it causes after time. After educating myself by reading this board constantly, I ordered the U-Turn Orbit in July. While I was waiting for the U-Turn to be delivered, I had to find a receiver and speakers as well.
The Orbit was upgraded a bit to the acrylic platter and Audio-Technica AT95E cartridge. The receiver is an Onkyo A-7022 which was made in Japan in the 70's (not sure which year to be exact) and is an integrated amp. That was purchased on ebay for $60ppd knowing it wasn't going to power on. For the price, I took the risk and took it to a local electronic repair shop. He told me it was just the power supply, so it was repaired and cleaned up for about $100. Lastly, the speakers are Pioneer SP-BS22-LR Andrew Jones speakers. These are the ones that are usually on sale on Amazon or Newegg. I bought the pair for $80 on Newegg, free shipping and they sound great!
The shelves are Threshold brand from Target. If anyone is in the market for shelving, I recommend these 100% especially if you don't have an Ikea close to you. I personally was never in one, but I know most people go with their shelves. I initially only bought the center shelf, but picked up the single shelves on each side for the speakers to keep them separate from the turntable. Plus it gave me storage for books and cds which I needed.
I found that basket at the bottom at Target, fits 7"s really well. I saw a thread a little while ago about 7" storage and this holds 100+.

Smitty reacted to dreamover in The Third Man Records Thread
On June 14th of this year, Jack White unleashed what was arguably one of the best performances in the 13 year history of the Bonnaroo festival.
In an expansive field in Manchester, TN, filled with approximately 70,000 fans, White let loose a tour-de-force, 26-song, two-hour and forty-five minute career-spanning set. From White Stripes songs like “Hotel Yorba” and “Icky Thump” to Raconteurs numbers such as “Top Yourself” and “Steady, As She Goes” through “Blue Blood Blues” by the Dead Weather…not to mention a wide selection of his solo material and covers of two surf rock classics “Pipeline” by the Chantays and “Misirlou” by Dick Dale. And Led Zeppelin’s “The Lemon Song”? He did that too.
In order to celebrate a show of such historical heft, Third Man Records has decided to dedicate the entirety of its 22nd Vault package to this performance.
Three vinyl LPs (white, blue and black), housed in a soft-touch, telescoping box, topped off with a lenticular television on the cover…this is by far the most ambitious Vault package yet. The audio has been mixed by Third Man’s in house engineer, three time Grammy Award-winner Vance Powell and stands as a marked improvement over the on-the-fly board mix heard in webcasts, YouTube uploads and shady downloads.
In addition, there will be a DVD of the FULL performance, re-edited from the original raw footage by Brad Holland (filmmaker extraordinaire), for a truly memorable visual document of the evening.
We could’ve stopped there…but anything worth doing is worth overdoing, right?
Also included in the package will be four high-quality 8x10 photographs from the evening shot by David Swanson. Suitable for framing, timeless, these will increase the value of your home tenfold.
(said to the guys in production) “Is that all? NO?!?!? Are you kidding me? What else could we offer?”
Apparently we’ve lost our minds and gone as for to include a customized Jack White patch, a replica backstage pass sticker AND a poster in this beast of a package.
You want a custom-designed USB with super-secret extra added bonus materials too? Have at it.
If this package doesn’t make you happy…nothing will. Subscriptions are open now, get yours in before the October 31st deadline.

95% is a bit of an exaggeration, but your point is legitimate. You needn't look further than the Blink-182 thread to see it. But if you've been around the board for a bit, you pick up on which members have no interest in that... and the majority of people posting in this thread fall under that camp. We want classic Modest Mouse albums at a reasonable price. No splatters or gimmicks necessary.

Smitty reacted to ajxd in Ortofon 2m series advice
Estimate. 1000hr x 60 = 60,000 mins. Average LP length ~40 mins. So say you listen to 5 LPs a day @ ~200 mins. 60,000/200= 300 days. Will you listen to records every day? Nope. Will you listen to 5 LPs a day? Probably not. So a year or two, depending on how much you listen.

I thought it was a Jico Bucks Fizz or was it Bay City Rollers, I get very confused with these exotic names.
On a very tenuous Bananarama note if you guys haven't seen it you should search out The Comic Strip Presents: Bad News Tour and More Bad News, they are a great British take on band rockumenteries and there's a good Bananrama joke in the 2nd one.
Sadly the bassist Colin Grigson (Rik Mayall) died earlier this year which gave me a good reason to watch them both again with a couple of beers.

Smitty reacted to allenh in Vibration causing records to jump.
If the floorboards creek or you can feel them move when you walk past then I fear bearchuck is right and you need a wall shelf but do check the transit bolts on the Dual as they stop the suspension working if in. The manuals for your Dual are in the vinyl engine library so have a look there.
I think you said the cabinet is in a corner which is even better for a wall shelf as you have two places to fix to and the one in the picture was really easy to make, I should really make it look a bit prettier one day as it was one of the temporary permanent things.

Tried rubber feet, rubber mats and learning the moonwalk. Only solution was a shelf. Cheers for the help guys, I can now at least walk to the fridge and back when listening to records.
