It absolutely makes him a terrible buyer. And I'll bet there's a lot of people on here not based in the U.S. that would agree. I buy records and ship them internationally to people all the time. It takes up some of my time and resources and I ask for zero compensation in return. Sometimes I wonder why the hell I even bother, especially when there are issues like when the records show up damaged to me and I have to resolve it.

But then the recipient is always so appreciative and grateful to save a good chunk of money on shipping. Plus, I have others that do the same for me in other countries on the few occasions it is necessary. I'd never back out once I put someone else on the hook for the cost. Ridiculous.

What?I'm only stating that I doubt people will start to become all pissy(ie.....^). If there's an issue, people will be civil about it. They won't start to burn a fucking stake and demand satisfaction.
If I get an unfit record, I'll send a friendly email, but I won't automatically jump on the offensive and assume I'll be fought every step of the battle.
Thanks for the kind words, though. It makes me feel kind.

At $50 for a record, I'm bummed that they mislead everyone about the pressing info. In fact it seems like they have twice now. Once when everyone thought it was out of 250, then we find out 500, now it's going to be 750+.

I bought it because it's cool, and limited. If I wasn't interested in either, I would have bought the black version. And the black version is the one that will be in print forever, so those on this site who say it's only about the music, well then buy the black copy and be done with it. Had I known the blue version would be the most limited, I might have thought about saving $30 or so. Because as cool as that cover is, if they're going to repress it over and over, it becomes less special. It becomes just a deluxe version, buy this one that's always in print for 3x the price, or settle for the regular at a regular price.

I want an exclusive pressing when I can get one because it's my way of saying "I was there when that came out". As a fan, I go out of my way to keep on top of exclusives from bands that I like. If I miss out, well, tough shit. Hopefully someone gets tired of their copy and I can find one on eBay. In the meantime, I can make due with the black version so I have the music. But the collector in me wants the limited variant and will pay for it. If someone else missed out, well, better luck next time. We can't win them all. That's how this bobby goes. But to create a demand with false numbers is pretty shady. Had they advertised that there was a possibility of a repress if the demand was high, then this wouldn't be an issue.

If these labels are really that concerned about their limited titles showing up on eBay, then don't do a limited version. Oh, that's right, if they don't make a limited edition, web orders go down. So the answer is to not concern yourself with what happens to a product once someone else buys it.

100% agree with Parker, manicdogbert74 and the statement from ITR. People need to stop being so nuts over how "exclusive" their record is. The people that worry about that shit are the ones that never play the damn thing in the first place. The eBay comment from ITR was spot on.

I will say that I buy limited editions myself but I welcome more being pressed as it just means more for people that missed out.

    My thoughts:
Why not just press more copies...on a different color vinyl?
Then those that bought it because it was rare/to flip/ or to catch them all still have originals that are the actual amount that the company said they were going to release.  Those that want one just to have one can buy the new color and since they just want one why would a new color bother them at all. Those that are completist have a new version to buy and the company can make more money by selling them this new version.
If any company thinks there is any chance they may want to make more of a release in the future....just don't give out the release numbers.  Say its limited but don't be specific.  Once you state a number then sell more you are just lying to your customers.  If you say its limited print all you want; it will still be limited to however many you make (or limited to the ammount of vinyl that exists on earth.)
People that are complaining about the complainers....really?  Different people buy/collect things for different reasons.  Can't we all just get along?  Is it wrong for someone to want to sell something some times?  Is it wrong to keep a rare record in your collection and never let anyone else have a chance at it?
Everyone has different opinions and we don't all have to have the same thoughts; thats a good thing!

If you're that unhappy about it, then you should write to ITR and cancel your order for the deluxe edition. I'm sure somebody else will buy your copy.

It's ridiculous how people are getting up in arms about this. I love how people have some absurd expectations about how labels are supposed to conduct themselves regarding pressing records.

They shouldn't press more because more people want it. I want to be special and have something NOBODY else has!!

Or from the Scott Pilgrim thread:

They can't do another red vinyl pressing! That goes against the rules!

If they want to press more copies, then let them press more copies. If you don't like it, don't buy it. All of this should be about the music. If you like the music buy it. If you're just buying the record because it's a limited edition, you're doing it wrong.

chiefwahoo reacted to slinch in Do Compilations count towards a full collection?
    I went with possibly.

IMO, it should count only if a compilation includes an exclusive track, not available on any other release. For any other compilation, it doesn't matter. But then again, a complete "vinyl" collection to me still isn't complete, or just as incomplete as a "vinyl minus comps" or "vinyl minus tests" collection. A complete collection to me means everything. Absolutely everything that exists. Every medium with every piece of music, every variant, every import/country specific release. However, as soon as the band puts out more than two or three full lengths, chances are your collection will never be complete in that sense.

As soon as you put any additional explanation or restriction to the "complete", it isn't complete. In this case it is a theme/medium/release specific collection, and technically it can be complete whenever you meet the criteria that satisfies you, but it never is actually realistically complete. And as soon as you wonder, even for a second, if what you have in fact is a complete collection, it means that the criteria you met don't really satisfy you.

There is no such thing as an "authorized bootleg".  It's a term that Matt from Animal Style made up and then Chris from No Sleep and the 6131 dude started throwing it around.  A bootleg is something that is "made, distributed, or sold illegally", getting authorization from the person that owns the rights makes it not a bootleg.  Is it cool when the band members sign off on things?  Sure.  But it's not required and nobody should feel guilty for buying this.
