8ight got a reaction from Duff in Best/Worst Customer Service from a Distro/Label?
Anyone have good/bad experience with Ninja Tune? I ordered the re-releases of two Amon Tobin albums, both arrived damaged (there was no protective packaging whatsoever, just the records tossed in a non-snug box).
However, one LP was clearly not damaged just from shipping. It wasn't sealed and there was a filament of dust/dirt covering the sleeve. There was a 4" hole in the top, and a 2" hole in the side. That filament of dirt was also on the record itself (from the holes) which tells me it was placed in the box to be shipped in this condition.
I contacted them/sent pictures, and they said they'd send me replacements. That was over three weeks ago, which is a bit disheartening considering it only took 10 days to receive the shipment when I first bought it.

Available through Southern Lord or the bandcamp page.

I'm a new Yob fan, so I'm stoked for this. I recently bought the reissue of Catharsis as well.
Edit: This isn't a new album FYI (they're going to be releasing a new album soon, I believe), just a re-release.

So then, why is the thread dumb? Does this same thread pop up every other day or something? I said on my first post here that I was new, but asides from people saying "dumb thread," I don't understand what the issue is. Sorry for being new?

I don't understand the hate, especially coming from a community that values buying multiple copies of the same album (variant collectors). Not saying anything against that, but I just think it's a bit hypocritical to be bashing this guy/thread because he likes collecting/preserving the original packaging. After all, isn't the physical aspect of vinyl one of the reasons we all enjoy vinyl?
But again, back on topic, I saw a video a while ago of a guy going through some albums he bought, all were old LPs that still had the shrink wrap on them (opened on the sides). They were all still in perfect condition. Granted, none were gatefolds.

OH YES! This album is fucking insane. Thanks for the heads up, have been keeping an eye on this album on Discogs for a while. Burning The Altar is among the best doom/heavy songs I've ever heard.
More doom/sludge/heavy on VC please!

I'm with you 100% on more sludge/doom around here.

Maybe I'm too new, but... this is trolling/dumb? He's asking whether you remove the plastic wrap or just open it to get records out and then leave it on. Right?
If it's just shrink wrap, I get rid of it. I don't really care about stickers that just label the vinyl color or whatnot. But some albums come with a larger sleeve, which is what I store my records in anyway. Dopethrone comes like this, and the actual lettering is on the outer sleeve rather than the gatefold. So in that case, I like keeping the original packaging. But it already tore. So... w/e, I'll eventually get rid of it and replace it with one of my generic sleeves. Doesn't make much difference to me!

So far I have downloaded
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew (Love it)
Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue (Love it) really mellow horns on the both of these
Herbie Hancock - Maiden Voyage and Head Hunters - need to spend more time with these
Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue (Love it, listening now)
Pat Metheny - New Chautauqua (Kind of a country feel maybe, didn't really click, I'll check out another release)
Duke Ellington and John Coltrane (Haven't listened yet)
Jaga Jazzist - One Armed Bandit (Haven't listened yet)
I'm still trying to find that Snarky Puppy mentioned earlier. I also have many more recommendations to check out, thanks to all for the starting point.

I know this post is a tad old, but I had to comment: I'd be pretty happy in this room, I imagine. Sleep, Bongripper, Mastodon, Sabbath... and lava lamps. Yes, this is good.
I've already posted this picture elsewhere, but here's the current "storage" area. I'll remove the 3rd door once I need more space, but after that... not sure yet. I'll worry about it when it happens. Currently, all my CDs are shoved behind that door (above is the overflow), so I'll have to find a new home for them as well.

Reorganized a bit. I have some signed gig flyers and art prints I need to put up still so it doesn't look like I only go and see Sleep
The flyers you can't really see in the third pic....
All of my CD's are hidden in the closet.

Not to be an asshole, but the SL-D2 is a well thought of table. It usually goes for around 100 or so on craigslist, more on ebay. Just because VC isn't a big vintage audio community doesn't mean you can just espouse bullshit to get whatever price you want.

8ight got a reaction from withengineheart in Recent purchases
A few albums I picked up within the last few weeks. I also finally bit the bullet and bought a copy of Sleep's Dopesmoker for about $45 after shipping. More than I like to spend on albums, but ah well; should be worth it.
Amon Tobin - Permutation (also picked up Bricolage--I'm waiting for new sleeves for both albums, as Bricolage in particular arrives VERY damaged)
Godflesh - S/T
Yob - Catharsis
Suma - Let the Churches Burn
Daughters - S/T

I have both, and I believe they're about the same.
I'll try to remember to check when I get home.

Not even close to a full "collection," so maybe I shouldn't even be posting here? I wouldn't really consider myself a collector; I just happen to like a lot of Converge and Jesu releases. I'd love to have all those Jesu releases on vinyl now, but I don't think I can justify to myself buying them all again.

Yes you can compensate and some have adjustable feet , you have an SL1200 so get a spirit level, see how far out it is and adjust to suit but make sure it's completely stable when you have finished.
What you are describing though is called sibilance and is quite often caused by incorrect VTA. If all the other cartridge alignments are correct then check your vertical tracking angle, which again as you have an SL1200 is very easy to adjust, you just spin the big adjuster at the base of the arm and adjust the arm up or down.
Ideally you are looking for the arm tube to be dead flat when playing, what you are adjusting is the stylus angle in the groove and too much one way will make it too bright giving you sibilance and the other too flat.

8ight got a reaction from deafening in post your set-up thread
I've been lurking here for a while and finally joined, so I suppose it's time for an obligatory "here's my stuff" post. I'm fairly new to vinyl, actually. My interest was first peaked years ago when I saw bands like Converge and Sunn and Isis releasing their albums on vinyl. Eventually, I said screw it and began buying LPs despite not even having a stereo. After doing a lot of saving, research, and searching eBay/craigslist, I finally put together my first set up several months ago. One of the best investments I've ever made.
Technics SL1200MK2
Pioneer Elite A-71
Sony C77ES
Dynaco A-25s (I still need to make some new "grills" for them)

Could be a fucked stylus or a misaligned cartridge. If you don't have a printer and you don't want to spend money on a protractor, I don't know what to tell you.

It's 6 tracks. From what I've read it looks like it will consist of b-sides from The Great Cold Distance and, I think, Night Is the New Day.
