Sure.
To me, these two songs do sound different and represent the two sides of this record (I wouldn't necessarily call them "extremes"). "Blood on the sand" is a catchy alternative rock song (simple verse-bridge-chorus structure, hookline in the chrous...). There are a few of these on the record, which make it easier accessible than Beggars or M/M to me. "Black honey" as well as "The window" (and others) are dirtier, groovier, more in the vein of said previous records.
If you are looking for extremes on single elements (e.g. ambient sounds ("Salt and shadow"), melodies ("Stay with me"), outbursts ("Death from above")...), you'll probably find them in every song. It's a diverse record, ranging from easy accessible hooklines to songs that need to grow on you.
Maybe that perception is also influenced by the fact that I've been following Thrice since Identity Crisis. My personal favourites are the first three records (or four, if you count First Impressions). However, they haven't lost me on their development since then and I enjoy their entire discography.

Please just tell me there is a hidden track on the album titled 'Deadbolt II'.

I wish the orange crush had more orange in it...  it just looks red.  Hopefully it looks cooler close-up.  The splatters look really cool, too.  Maybe I'll spring for those too...  grrrr

ShipCon on Thirsday, arrived today (SoCal). Black is beautiful. All the instruments come off very well, for some reason I'm enjoying the cymbals the most. Recorded very well. Overall crackle throughout, but I've been hearing that on lots of my records lately, may need to examine my cleaning method or needle health, or just dry here lately (static). So happy it's here!! Oh, and got those raffle tickets. Includes lyrics to Song Silly (in English) and Commit Ballad (in Japanese).

I think I caught your angle; my post was also a jab at the frat boys who can't seem to get over that track. It's always a treat to see live, but it's hardly the reason to catch Thrice, for me.

Yup, colour in colour was the right choice here.

I'm with you on this new song, Don. Absolutely killer tune. Love the hand percussion and the space-rock sounding sample in the beginning. Need I even mention the overdriven bass about 1/4 of the way through? Welp, I did.
This shit rules. Just got way more pumped for the full album.

I'm truly shocked by some of your guys' feedback. To each their own, obviously, but man... I'm honestly loving this album. Such a unique direction for them to go. Very minimalistic comparatively to their previous efforts.
The overall sound-quality and production is also on point. Really stoked to spin this when it shows up forever from now!

EDIT: Song is short but very sweet. Sounds like vintage Caspian with a fresh take on it. A pretty perfect post-rock song imo.
