Pink Galaxy vinyl up for preorder.
"Mute will release M83’s Digital Shades Vol. 2 on September 20, 2019. It will be available in limited edition pink galaxy color double vinyl, CD, and digital formats. Anthony Gonzalez (M83) spoke with his brother and creative partner Yann Gonzalez about the record, saying the below: At first there was this vivid memory of Dungeons and Dragons, this childhood sensation of living in an imaginary world set in a faraway past or a lost future. I wanted to create some music that could be part of this adventure and journey with all of its solitary knights, dreamy landscapes, strange animals, forgotten myths and old spells. Originally, the Digital Shades project was supposed to be much more intimate – a collection of B-sides and unused tracks destined for the hardcore fan base. Digital Shades was the name chosen to dissociate it from a proper studio album, although it would be fully part of M83’s discography. Digital Shades became an excuse to give a second life to some tracks instead of letting them disappear into the void. I wanted to create a production of ambient music that could evolve throughout the years. With Vol. 2, I wanted to come back with something stronger that featured the depth of a proper studio album without the pressure of providing pop music – faraway from Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming and Junk. The inspiration behind this record is mainly video game music. It felt so refreshing to play all of these old school games again. I wanted to be surrounded by nature and the past. I would only feed myself with older art. It’s almost as if I couldn’t stand living in the present. This is probably why it was important for me to only use analog equipment for this record. We recorded everything with vintage equipment in my studio and at Justin Meldal-Johnsen’s studio in Glendale, California during final production."
From email newsletter:
"Today M83 announces DSVII. Arriving more than 12 years after the first installment, the album will be released on September 20th.
When I work on a record, I have difficulty saying goodbye to some pieces of music that I think have potential but don’t necessarily fit the style of the album. This is how Digital Shades became an excuse to give a second life to some tracks instead of letting them disappear into the void.
With DSVII, I wanted to come back with something stronger that featured the depth of a proper studio album without the pressure of providing pop music – faraway from Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming and Junk.

jackshidt reacted to holyvacantsholyhell in New Color Vinyl for Glass Candy/Chromatics/Desire - IDIB
Yeah, no. Good luck getting IDIB fans to turn on them. They treat their fans well and this makes sense to me. They’re obviously trying to keep this tour and it’s setup under wraps and are working towards announcing dear tommy. Pretty sure JJ didn’t mean to personally sleight you. If they wanted to screw fans they wouldn’t charge $18 for triple LPs and ensure there’s essentially zero market for flipping their releases with constant represses the second something sells out

It's very difficult for me to be mad at IDIB. I mean Johnny has always sold his records for well below most labels and he always does new cool colors, signed records, and other cool stuff. I don't know what his reasoning is, but I have to respect it because he does treat his fans pretty damn well.

Man, I don't know - that absolutely sucks your accounts are getting dinged but I find it hard to call it crummy, or even wrong. If posting concert videos is completely legal and not going against any copyright policy for the venue, musician, set designer, anything, then I'd have to blame YouTube here for allowing that flagging to be allowed. But I always thought concert videos, while often ignored, are absolutely subject to being removed.
These guys aren't very big, currently on a tour and trying to sell tickets. I guess you could argue that the videos will encourage others to go to a show but I can see why the artist wouldn't agree.

Odd. It’s almost as if they’re trying to tell people to actually take in the moment of being at one of their shows instead of watching it through a screen.

Innsbruck-based Lars Andersson and Phillip Dornauer’s shoegaze-inspired beginnings coalesced on their acclaimed 2017 EP, Glimpse, which did just as it said, offering a tantalising peek into their world; the full, glorious vista is now revealed on their accomplished debut album.
And All That Ever Could Have Been really is breathtaking. It begins with an almost 15-minute post-rock epic and takes in nods to ambient, dreampop and prog, with echoes of Galaxie 500, Low, Beachwood Sparks, Dungen, The Besnard Lakes, Sigur Rós and M83. Its eight tracks belie both the band’s youth and their small number, forming a mountain of sound that suggests they are more of a geological outfit than a musical one.
MOLLY singer and guitarist Lars Andersson is trying to explain the main influences on All That Ever Could Have Been. He continues: “I mean less in a contemporary sense, and the understanding of our region as some sort of fairytale-like holiday refuge, but much more in the way that Goethe and generations before him used to view the Alps: as a dangerous and scary place of unpredictable weather changes, sharp cliffs, threatening mountain passes and barren wasteland – a place where nature still rules in contrast to men.”
It is the sheer scale and drama of this landscape that informs the sound of MOLLY; Andersson’s glacial guitars are perfectly complemented by Dornauer’s crevasse-like drumming. Both live and on record there’s an unstoppable elemental power that emanates from the duo. “Not many people have experienced something like a sudden thunderstorm on a mountaintop, but if you have, you’ll never forget about it,” says Andersson, by way of explaining the feelings of awe their music evokes. “It truly must be one of the scariest and intimidating things nature has to offer.”
As if to underline this point, the album contains field recordings made by the band high in the Alps, but lyrically, their concerns are much closer to sea level. “They come from the inside and deal with topics like growing up, time, decay, sentimentality, transitioning into adult life and everything that comes with it,” explains Andersson.
“While the mountains and nature somehow represent all that’s cyclical, everlasting and infinite, the lyrics contrast with that by talking about very human struggles, something that – in a nostalgic way – is also meant to be reflected in the album title itself.”
But with a debut album that reaches such lofty heights, MOLLY are a band destined to be much more than mere could have beens.
