Asphyz reacted to Gumbo72203 in PO NOW: Deafheaven - Infinite Granite (08/20)
After listening to "In Blur", my feeling is that Deafheaven is generic now. The thing that made them stand out and really fucking cool was that they put the blastbeats and black metal vocals over the bright, major key pretty parts. Now they're just another shoegaze band.
It's not bad, it's just forgettable. I wanted so badly for the blast beats and screaming to come in at the end of In Blur to push it to the top, and it just doesn't happen. Feels like wasted momentum.
I totally get the wanting to change thing and getting sick of doing the same thing, but what made them so unique was their "Fuck it" attitude of "Fuck you, basement Darkthrone and Mgla purists, we're gonna put shoegaze and 90's rock over your blast beats" but now they've just gone and become another band in a sea of shoegaze bands.
The only thing remarkable is the style shift from their previous work. Nothing stood out, I can't recall as single part of any of the songs right now. Like I said, it's not bad.... it's good, actually. Well done, but not memorable. ::Shrug::

Did you email them? I've been on the subscription for a couple of years and a couple of times I got the wrong record, or one time I didn't get a record and they always sorted it out.

Asphyz reacted to hxcoliver in DEAFHEAVEN - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love
I concur.
It’s definitely a “nicer sounding” album, and a logical step forward for the band. But I don’t really dig it. I love he aggressive, intense stuff from sunbather and new Bermuda, this seemed too boring to me on first listen. Still like his vocal, but the music wasn’t doing it too much for me. Definitely did not like the opening track, honeycomb is rad, but the rest is just meh to me

Asphyz reacted to thebilljim in PO: Bossk - Audio Noir LP (Deathwish Inc)
Just dropped my copy on the turntable now...this opens up SO MUCH SOFTER than I would have expected from a Deathwish release (and I don't mean that in a bad way.) It builds up in a way not unlike what I always loved about Isis, but a little dirtier and with more groove. I'm only on the second track, but already not regretting the purchase.
Matt, I'm pretty sure you helped convince me to buy this, so thank ya!

Asphyz got a reaction from dirac in DEFTONES- GORE (OUT NOW)
Yea, I think you may regret it if you don't. You can feel pretty confident it will sound good, and it's numbered, most limited etc... If you're into that.
£30 all in isn't really too awful thinking about it.

Erm... Unless you selected the most premium shipping method, shipping to the UK was around $17/£12.

Asphyz reacted to myoclonicjerk in CONVERGE - Thousands of Miles Between Us Deluxe Box set (Limited): 3 X Blu-ray, Live 2XLP
I'm not a diehard collector or completionist by any means, and I'm primarily interested in the vinyl, but I have to say this boxset looks absoultuely beautiful. I hesitated on the price for a second, reminded myself how much this will probably be getting flipped for on eBay, and pulled the trigger. Something this limited and of this magnitude seems like a steal if it is something you actually want to possess from a band you love (or like most of us are completely obsessed with). Let's be honest, some of us spend more than this going out for dinner and drinks. Also, 6 pounds??? This is like the Kingdom Death: Monster of vinyl boxsets. It's weird to see so many complaints about the cost against a record label who consistently puts out high quality releases and has never tries to gouge their fans on prices or charges extra for colored vinyl variants or stupid shipping rates. Anyway, I'm just ranting now, but I'm glad I snagged a copy early and I can't wait to have it displayed on my shelf or coffee table.

Asphyz reacted to jbannon in CONVERGE - Thousands of Miles Between Us Deluxe Box set (Limited): 3 X Blu-ray, Live 2XLP
A few notes:
Deluxe Box Set:
Why so expensive? Simple: It is/was expensive to create. The custom box alone is expensive to manufacture, adding 3 Blu-Ray Discs, 2 X 12"LPs w/ a Jacket, a 160 Page Perfect Bound Book, 16 oz Slipmat, and Embroidered Patch adds a much more to that expense. I should also note that this thing is a beast and weighs over 6 pounds. It's not for everyone, and isn't meant to be, that is why there are other, more affordable, options of the release to choose from.
If anything the 3 X Blu-Ray version is underpriced as the manufacturing cost on that version is quite high for us as well. I'd rather get it in as many hands as possible though as I consider that the "standard" version of the release.
Apparel:
There is a ton of options to choose from, and yes, even sweatpants. Thought it would be fun to make them as we've never made them before. Again, not for everyone, but not meant to be either.
Anyway, thanks for checking the release/project out. We've worked incredibly hard on it for years now.
Your interest in it is appreciated.

But seriously, you could spend the $100 on the sweatpants and hoodie.. Converge-esque shell suit. You'd look cool.
