bsm variant arrived today and it's a beauty. The good things about bsm is they almost never post a mockup, just the description. So it's always a nice surprise

Most recently announced Flenser title might float some of your boats.  Full deets in the Flenser thread but for those who don't frequent that one here's a taste of Vale's debut album Burden Of Sight.

Truthseeker have tracked down some copies of Sonance's 2012 debut Like Ghosts and have put them along with all the bands other releases together in a very affordable discography bundle:

    Or separately:
    http://www.truthseekermusic.com/products/638420-sonance-like-ghosts

As always the material is available on Sonance's  bandcamp for pay what you want download alongside the drone companion pieces but for £38 getting three full lengths and a 12" split with Torpor you seriously can't go wrong, there's also a vinyl bundle that includes the Blister The Maw EP on cassette as well for just a couple of pounds more.

Realise these guys are small time and I'm possibly the only person excited about them but I think some of you would really dig them. Give it a spin:

He reminds me a lot more of Ariel Pink meets Lemon Demon than Ween, but I do think he's pretty good nonetheless. My buddy is close with him and says he's gonna try to keep the stuff in print (with several pressings rather than one unlimited run) and is also debating whether or not to release his upcoming 100-song project in a box set or just not do physicals at all.

Just like to echo the sentiments that LP2 was great, admittedly I came to this band very late having only really picked up their stuff and Owen maybe 2 or 3 years ago because of the conversation in a thread like this. Maybe it's the core nineties fan base that just didn't get on with it, I imagine after such a long stretching hiatus the expectations were insurmountable for some to look past? I agree that it does sound very different to LP1 but in my experience whenever a band disappears and then reappears after so long there's sadly always an element of elitism to be found in the fan base.

The instrumentation on LP2 is solid, the lyrics let it down in very few patches and its in no way a bad album. It's just different and I am always happy to have an album which mixes things up.

My hopes are high for LP3 but after two listens of Silhouettes and one of the track with Hayley Williams I'm holding off now. Not long to wait.

Swear there's some other Katatonia fans in here right? If not why not? I can't believe this album is already ten years old, there's also a Tour where the band will be playing this in full.

    The Blurb:

KATATONIA, the Swedish purveyors of dark progressive rock/metal, are starting to make their first moves after an idle year of stillness.
Says the band: "We will begin our return with a celebration of our album 'Night Is The New Day', which turns 10 years now in 2019. For the album's 10th anniversary, Peaceville are set to release a deluxe edition of this classic album on 17th May 2019, and to further commemorate this dark gem, we will return to the live arena to play 'Night Is The New Day' in its entirety at six select club shows in Europe in May.
"The 10th-anniversary edition of 'Night Is The New Day' will feature new cover artwork from longtime collaborator Travis Smith, a glorious hi-res 5.1 remix created (for the first time) by Bruce Soord and sleeve notes by renowned journalist Dom Lawson."

    Tracklist:

    1. Forsaker
    2. The Longest Year

Double LP on red scheduled for release on May 17th. (Love the fact they've added in the bonus tracks before Departer because you can't not end the album on that song it wouldn't be right)

Oddly they're also releasing a deluxe 10" book version similar in style to the last two studio albums but instead of the album on vinyl it's just a 10" of the longest year EP as well as two CDs and a DVD.  Full tracklist for that here:

    48 page hardback book.
10" vinyl (The Longest Year EP)
    CD Album

Odd that I haven't seen this posted just got tickets for the show at the Kentish Town Forum.

    Here's the blurb:
Having taken a break in 2010 (the previous fifteen years seeing them turn from raucous cult curiosity to chart bothering national treasures) Friendship and the bind of their creativity brought Idlewild back together for 2015’s Everything Ever Written. With it, came critical praise, an album in the top 20, and the band selling out venues as large as they ever had. With new members Luciano Rossi and Andrew Mitchell on board, Roddy Woomble, guitarist Rod Jones and drummer Colin Newton felt a renewed sense of purpose. So much so that the week that Everything Ever Written was released, they were already back at the drawing board to start work on what would become the bold step sidewards, album Interview Music.
Inspired, they later decamped at the end at the end of a US tour in 2016 to Los Angeles to flesh out their ideas, but it would be some years before they set themselves up at Jones’ own Edinburgh studio to finish the record. Before finishing the album, the band performed a run of shows to celebrate the anniversary for their seminal record The Remote Part. One of those shows would see them meet up once again with the producer of that record and 100 Broken Windows, Dave Eringa, who would provide Idlewild with the grounding they needed to finish Interview Music. “Dave produced five songs on the album, but also brought a focus back to the band, and actually made us finish it!” admits Woomble “He made it sound like us,”
This is no more apparent than on opener Dream Variations; with its echoing, fever-dream melody, chiming fizzing riff, and vocal harmonies, before taking a surprise left-turn and drifting into a waltz-like trance. Much like the rest of the record, it has the indie-rock DNA of the band, but mutated in new and strange ways. Same Things Twice takes the fire of the heavier highlights like A Modern Way Of Letting Go or Little Discourage, but carries it with a more mature grace. Then I Almost Didn’t Notice and Mount Analogue make for record’s centre-pieces as playful, adventurous and strange – driven by abandon but still loyal to all that you want from Idlewild; not least for Woomble’s lyrics. Here you’ll find another tapestry of riddles written to “celebrate vagueness”. “What’s really important about Idlewild is that we are basically punk rock kids,” concludes Woomble. “No one ever taught us how to play anything. We formed a band and we learned. In our own way. We were inspired by the bands we saw just getting up on stage, making a noise and exchanging ideas, and trying to change your ideas. That’s principally what the band still do. I’m not a kid rolling around screaming into a microphone on the floor anymore, but that ideal is still at our core.”

Nice, yeah the new single isn't bad at all. All their albums are solid enough, that being said Make Another World was the last one that really blew my socks off. I may still wind up getting this down the line but now I'm just happy to be seeing them live.
