oojavaguru got a reaction from [Banned User] in VC 1st Annual Super Bowl Squares Free Vinyl Giveaway
Hey VC,
This site has done a lot for me. Given me info on pre-orders, given me info on artists to check out, given me friends for my Simpsons Tapped Out game....heh. I wanted to give back, and what better way than holding a Super Bowl Squares giveaway.
If you aren't familiar with Squares, you get a square. There are 100 slots available and if you are interested in participating, then respond below. You will be given 2 Random Squares. So that means we need 50 people to enter. After everyone has entered, then numbers are drawn and then placed in the grey slots below.
So for instance, if you have the Broncos 1 and Seahawks 0, then you would "win" if the score were Denver 21, Seattle 10.
Prizes will be from my personal collection and awarded in the following manner:
SEALED LP for the person who has the correct score after the 1st quarter
SEALED LP for the person who has the correct score at Halftime
SEALED LP for the person who has the correct score after the 3rd quarter
SEALED LP for the person who has the correct Final Score
BONUS: If someone is lucky enough to win multiple quarters, then they will get bonus items. (A list will be provided after the Super Bowl to the winners, to choose from)
So just respond below and you'll be given a square. We need 50 people for this to work, I am sure we can do this!!
Note: I'll be at a Super Bowl party on Sunday, so I won't be able to update this real-time until later that night. But I will have an updated bracket that you can print out and take with you to see how you do!
Good luck!

oojavaguru reacted to RadDonut in 2nd Annual VC Royal Rumble Giveaway!
It's here! The 2nd Annual VC Royal Rumble Giveaway! (YAY) Last year was my first time to do a giveaway and I loved doing it so here we are again! The royal rumble only consists of 30 wrestlers so unfortunately not everyone will be able to participate. Also, you will not be able to pick your wrestler (this is really the only way to make it fair). After all 30 spots have been taken I will put all 30 names in the order they were received and then put each wrestlers name and a number in a hat/bucket or whatever and draw in the order people signed up. Last year I had a great response to this and it was a lot of fun! My mom's birthday is Sunday so I don't actually get to watch the rumble this year. BITTERSWEET! My best bud Bay will be watching (he is a wrestling guru) and he will write down the order of the wrestlers as they are announced. Big shout out to SSPECK for being last year's winner with the ultra d-bag John Cena! (sspeck will be entered in automatically for winning last year) Like I said, it is the luck of the draw with who you get as your wrestler. Last year I had people PM me but I AM NOT doing that this year! I hate having an inbox that is all over the place So, if you want to enter, you need to be one of the first 30 people to reply in the comments. NO PM's will be responded to! If you PM for a spot and don't comment, you will not be entered.
So far these are the people signed up (this will update as people sign up)
01. sspeck (9)
02. marc32137 (5)
03. rooksbook (16)
04. Brock309 (11)
05. kess (23)
06. andy_stix88 (21)
07. cwhitmuzik (19)
08. wasteland76 (27)
09. BigSeth (6)
10. TheWindBlower (17)
11. carrowsmith89 (30)
12. Tamubro (8)
13. wildflange (13)
14. enjoytheride (22)
15. ajhall04 (2)
16. Mikko777 (15)
17. isavedlatin54 (26)
18. bossdj26 (10)
19. SeaMoney (18)
20. ifworkpermits (29)
21. jimthehuman (20)
22. cesar11 (7)
23. onlettingjoe (24)
24. Spaghetti (3)
25. amnorth (12)
26. rickyfuller (1)
27. oojavaguru (28)
28. Crack Rock Steady (25)
29. combatchuckaa (14)
30. thedannychang (4)
If the number that is drawn for you is 5 then the 5th wrestler to enter the ring will be yours. (So on and so on) If you know how a royal rumble works then this shouldn't be too hard to understand. Also, if you see anything that may be hard to understand just let me know and I'll try to get all the details worked out. In the spirit of the giveaway, if you're willing, change your avatar to any wrestler, wrestling logo, etc. I am not doing this because the Broncos are about to win the Super Bowl and I care more about that than wrestling
COMMENT AWAY!!! Sorry in advance to those at work, not on a comupter, or having a life
EDIT: I totally forgot to let everyone know what is up for the giveaway. Last year I did a $20-$30 record of your choosing and I would purchase it and send it your way. This year I will give away 2 prizes.
1st Place: Record of $20-$30 (including shipping) of your choice, 1 record of your choosing from the list I will provide after winning, and a random 7" from my collection.
Runner up: 1 record of your choosing from the list I will provide after winning.
I know it isn't a ton, but it is what I can offer. I've felt priviledged to be apart of this community and I love buying and selling to everyone on here.

Well, let's say you were at the line queuing up for 1 or 2 hours, finally managed to get to the cashier, but the cashier machine breaks down and you are forced to join another line and wait for 1 or 2 hours again.
When you finally reach your turn again, the cashier machine breaks down again and you join yet another long line
Multiply the above by 6 times. You've now spent 5 or 6 hours at the store trying to get christmas groceries which are exclusive to this store, which you have been tasked by your wife to get, or she will not have sex with you for the whole of 2014.
Finally, you are about to check out again, the cashier machine works fine for this line. Yet some asshole thief suddenly comes up and takes your goods out of the basket and runs out of the store. You frantically go back to the aisles looking for your stuff but it is by now sold out, and you sadly make your way home.
You had spent about 6 hours in the supermarket, Yet you still fail to get the groceries despite trying your hardest and getting so close each time.
Would you still be happy because it's christmas and the spirit of giving? Nah. Doubt so. You'd probably be mad because of the bad luck and the extremely poor operations of the supermarket.
This is exactly what happened to us here. Bad luck, limited number of copies, and screwed up webstore. So get off your moral high horse man and stop trying to play down the situation as nothing much, as something we shouldn't be angry about, because we definitely should be.
PS. Doubt anyone is actually mad at Justin.

oojavaguru reacted to xxbyaaahxx in Dine Alone: City and Colour Holiday Vinyl + Alexisonfire Releases
Nothing against Casey and anyone else who agree's with him, but to try and use Christmas as a downplay of what happened, thats wrong. If this happened on a random ass tuesday in the middle of April, everyone would still be pissed, and then what, blame it on spring rains, and how we should be joyus because they dont get rain in Turkey?
Sorry, thats a terrible example, and I have no idea if Turkey gets rain or not in April, but the fact remains, this isn't something that can be downplayed because "It's Christmas, be happy and give to others you selfish asshole". No, they fucked up, big time, and deserve to be informed of how shitty their service was, its not our fault they picked the busiest time of year to try and hussle a widely sought after box set.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanx to that kind of thinking, it's gonna be even harder to get Ty's limited releases for "real" fans (as opposed to flippers).
Let me guess, you're about to sell the Fuzz next colored single for $500 ?
Sharing the info about Pirate Press with everyone in first place was totally cool but your late behaviour seems strange to me.

oojavaguru got a reaction from kamalatapes in Rough Trade Records Finally Opening NYC Store 11/25
http://www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/5695502/exclusive-rough-trade-will-open-flagship-us-store-nov-25-in-new-york
Rough Trade, the iconic London music retailer that spawned Rough Trade Records and served as a cradle for post-punk music in the late 1970s, will open its first flagship store in the U.S. in New York on Monday, November 25.
The store, a 15,000 square foot repurposed film prop warehouse in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, represents a major gamble on the American music market by the retailer, which in recent years has enjoyed a sales boom in the U.K. despite harsh industry realities in that country and around the word. In April, the British trade magazine Music Week named Rough Trade “Retail Brand of the Year.”
“New York and London are similar in many ways -- they're kaleidoscopic celebrations of global differences and similarities,” Rough Trade co-president Stephen Godfroy tells Billboard of expanding across the Atlantic. “They enjoy an open-mindedness, a deep respect for the past, a voracious appetite for the future, which all combines to produce a climate that suits our individual approach to music retail.”
The Williamsburg store was originally announced in April of 2012, with plans to open its doors at an unspecified date later that year. But what Godfroy describes as “numerous obstacles in the construction planning and building process” left those plans in limbo until now.
Rough Trade N.Y.C. will sell all new music -- no used -- in multiple formats in addition to serving as a “healthy-sized place to hang out” for music lovers. A portion of the space has been sectioned off as a performance venue for free in-stores as well as after-hours ticketed concerts booked by The Bowery Presents.
The store will join other live music venues in perpetually developing North Williamsburg, including Bowery’s Brooklyn Bowl, Output and the Williamsburg Waterfront and Williamsburg Park.
“The emphasis will be on music the art, not the commodity,” says Godfroy. “In that respect, it will be true to our London stores, places where music and culture lovers of all ages and taste congregate and celebrate what it means to be independent.”
Physical music retailers in the U.S. have endured a bitter decline in sales as consumers have shifted to digital consumption methods. In the past five years, sales at independent music retailers have fallen 36.1%, according to Nielsen SoundScan, while chain stores and mass merchant retailers like Wal-Mart and Best Buy saw even bigger dips of 71.6% and 51.7% over the same period, respectively. In New York just this year, independent retailers Bleecker Bob’s andSound Fix records closed their doors due to intractable profit margins.
There are signs that physical formats aren’t dead yet, however. Vinyl sales are so far up a whopping 31.9% just this year, according to SoundScan, continuing a hockey-stick growth phase for the format that dates back to the first Record Store Day in 2008.
In London, Rough Trade Retail Group, which operates independently from Rough Trade Records, has two stores, Rough Trade West and Rough Trade East. The latter, opened in 2007, is the larger of the two, but at 5,000 square feet is only one third the size of the New York store.
“This city demands something truly special, and hopefully that's what we can achieve in collaboration with the people that visit and go on to define the space over the months and years to come,” says Godfroy. “[The store is] a way of saying ‘thank you’ for the joy and inspiration NYC has given us with its music and culture.”
_______________________________________________________________________________
I'm a little jealous, as this store will likely be like Tower/HMV used to be back in the day....able to get UK imports pretty cheap. I'd also not be surprised if they ended up sending items from UK RSD here to sell exclusively in their store. Any items that are only released or made available in EU/UK will be another area where this store could really help out (going there to special order UK/EU items and saving on shipping costs for instance). I guess with them opening on 11/25, they should partake in Black Friday RSD.

I think it has to be ITR. Why would Pirate Press say "Here's what we are doing for ITR" and then have it not be from them? Pirate has some sort of order form in front of them, they know who ordered it.

Yeah, I don't really understand why people are being so mysterious with the info. Aren't we supposed to be helping each other here as fellow record collectors? I guess we all need to keep this in mind when people ask for favors in the future?
-
oojavaguru reacted to stl_ben in Ty Segall Band - Live at Death By Audio via ITR
From what I understand they are not telling people not to tell anyone about it...they are just telling them not to post where they got it from.
I don't think it should be too difficult to figure out where the record is coming from though....Pirate Press and my blog posted that info almost a month ago now...
But complaining is probably easier than a google search and/or a few emails.

I got mine through Amazon when it was first announced, so it will be delivered tomorrow.
However, if I had an extra to sell, I'd offer Worldwide shipping and send it overseas to someone who may want to play it early before its released in a particular foreign market and/or might be a US citizen temporarily working overseas with kids and this would make them happy. Guarantee then, that the price would be far greater than the $750 prices that have been sold thus far.
On a side note, I think I saw an article that stated that after the PS4 launch, some 10,000 sold on Ebay (http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidthier/2013/11/19/ps4-sales-soar-on-ebay/). I'll be too busy playing Forza, Dead Rising 3, COD: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Ryse and NFS: Rivals to even have time to think about Ebay.
