So much relief about selling my Leitmotif LP and missing out on the El Cielo 2xLP. I never let go of my PS3 to play my El Cielo SACD though, which is just beautiful. It's really a shame that labels can't/won't get into doing a digital (24 bit) audiophile remaster thing. I'd buy the shit out of that. I'm also curious how often the studio recordings (like individual instrument tracks) are archived vs. hey we only saved the CD mix as a file. Speaking as someone who's done graphic design for ten years now... that'd be like saving all of my original Adobe Illustrator files as jpeg... which is just dumb.

Really happy to hear this is being pressed. The production was a bit over the top, hopefully the vinyl mix/master is better. It was absolutely crushing to hear "Ode to the Sun" on the CD after hearing it live. "Ode..." played live has so much dynamic and power. On the CD version it's so dull and lifeless. The only song that benefited from the dynamic range compression was "Hungover on a Tuesday" cuz that song just crushes anyway.

Does anyone own Good Kid & care to comment on audio quality? I've meant to buy but never did. Also fyi Butterfly is on HDTracks in 24bit 44khz lossless. Also how dope would it be if each side ended with "I remember you was conflicted..."

I'm buying one from Failure they are actually doing fans a solid...They did what had to be done to make this happen...And they're not just reselling it: "We are still un-recouped in the eyes of Warner, so they own the masters for that stuff [all WB/Slash albums]. Why isn't this a thing?

This is cool. My MFSL Angel Dust always sounds a bit flat. Plus that outtake and my Easy 7" is less than perfect. Anyone else have the og AD? I do and I swear its better than the MFSL.

Vinyl records don't sound good but the mastering that goes into them does 80%+ of the time. I propose record labels sell the vinyl master on HDTracks like Barsuk did for some of the Death Cab reissues.

I'm just going to do an HD audio capture and listen to flac. Let's talk.

Plain is plain inconsistent. Their Elliot Smith reissues are ace. Their Mr Bungle is trash. Their reissue of Fiona's extraordinary machine is tight. You just don't know...they so crazy.

I hear you all. Pressing from digital almost always means pressing from an overly loud digital master. Everything I've owned be it official or bootleg that sounds like that gets resold. It really bums me out when major labels go to the trouble of having it pressed without even preparing the audio for decent dynamics (aka. 10dB variance between quiet and loud). I'm sure the internal conversation is then - "should we release the new album on vinyl too? nah we still have stock from the last vinyl release". I do have this bit of advice: if it's a UMG release on vinyl, do your homework. If it's a vinyl-digital release, obviously it's digital but someone actually has tried to make it dynamic... although the surface noise can mitigate that.

Amen...did a CD dump of ToR and attempt at de-loudness war-ing it....sounds fresh. They really ought to do what 3eb did...
