firefoxUSSR got a reaction from lateralundertow in WTB: Tool, Will Haven, QOTSA, Failure
Tool bootleg is terrible, clearly CD-sourced, has a different layout than OP.  The original is worth it and will continue to appreciate in value. QotSA bootleg is top notch. Never heard a genuine pressing but the bootleg has full dynamics and is likely made from another record. Failure is crazy expensive and worth it.

Haha. The artwork is great and I feel Iike a picture disc would work well.

Let's hope so, if it becomes a cool thing then loads of people will do it and the dicks in the suits will be overruled and the artists who don't understand the concept of dynamics will open their ears to their fanbase's requests.

As for whether it's the new cool thing, I only see people complaining about it on AV forums like here, Steve Hoffman forums, etc., so no...I don't think it's the new cool thing yet.

However it's nice to see that sometimes a review that specifically calls out the dynamic compression can be the #1 most helpful review on Amazon like this one of Soundgarden's Telephantasm - http://www.amazon.com/review/R2G6JU4JL0AIJ7/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B003YRIM0Q&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=

I don't think this is a new thing, I think more people are becoming educated on what is happening with music.  Black Gives Way to Blue has clipping and digital distortion through out, Death Magnetic was the worst, the new Fall Out Boy album is pretty bad too.  It takes away from the dynamic range that used to exist in music, what a drag.

Also, picture discs are too gimmicky, hopefully they do a standard release.

My copy arrived yesterday. First LP was slightly warped and the top right corner of the sleeve slightly crunched, but nothing terrible so I'm content with that. The color is fantastic and fits perfectly with the album art theme, so well played on that. Sound wise, it's been a while since I've listened to the album but it sounds fine to me - not a significant upgrade from the CD from what I remember, but an enjoyable listening experience.
However, and this is no one's fault, the side splits kill the fun for me. "Tourniquet" is supposed to seamlessly flow into "Little Horn" and "Angel With The Scabbed Wings" is supposed to be born out of the maelstrom at the end of "Mister Superstar", but with the side splits as they are - a necessity due to time constraints on each side, I get it - the overall effect of the album is ruined for me. Also, not having a little bit of editing done to make the ends/beginnings of each side a little less jarring - you can hear the end of "Tourniquet" at the beginning of "Little Horn", for example - is even more detrimental for me. (I don't have any other pressings of this one so maybe it's always been like that, but see something like 'The Downward Spiral' where the end of "Eraser" is extended a bit and the beginning of "Reptile" is smoothed out to make the lack of transition between the two less obvious. Does that make sense?)
I'm glad to have it and as a physical artifact it's a great representation of the album. However as a listening experience, it falls short for me and the CD will remain my go to whenever I feel the need to listen to this again.
That said, bring on "Portrait of an American Family" on a 2xLP and I am first in line.

For the most part, they're the songs I prefer listening to on the last couple of albums. The heavier songs I tend to skip or not get too excited about anymore.

I'd buy "Title of Record" if it was finally pressed on vinyl, but will probably pass on everything else of theirs.

Either that or it's a strange coincidence that the same two colors of Identity Crisis are now available as when I paid $50 for Identity Crisis to RomanArcher/Andy/etc, never came.  See these posts for reference:
