gud got a reaction from chiefwahoo in Jingle Bell Rocks! - Documentary on Oscilliscope
i only found a mention of this inside the Black Friday RSD post so i wanted to add more information.
I was looking around the nets for some offbeat xmas tunes this year and discovered this film all about collectors who search for offbeat xmas tunes all the time. How neat!
Plus, it's got some interviews with some pretty interesting fellows.
check it out if it's coming to your town...

gud got a reaction from zeb_enjoys_vinyl in Nirvana - Incesticide: which pressing to get?
Here's my advice:
Go to a record show. While you're flipping through old classic rock and roll records, keep your ears open for a guy to sell one of the owners a copy of Nirvana's Incesticide for $25. Then when he leaves, ask the owner if you can buy it from him for $25. Then when you open it and realize that it's the original blue swirl, you run out of the hotel as fast as you can.
That's what i did.

maybe psychopaths was a little harsh, but I've not seen a single major release that was not immediately dissed by them on the basis of waveform visuals a week before the product was released and most of them haven't even HEARD it yet. a lot of them won't believe their ears, but will trust 100% what some computer output visuals tell them as the truth. it's the wrong way to listen to music.

The Hoffman forum is the place to go. Some may consider them "psychopaths"... Honestly there's just a lot of overly-anal listeners on there. But you can read literally pages (and PAGES) about the sonics of these reissues... including waveforms, DR levels, and separate threads for vinyl, CD, and HD Tracks.
The Hoffman people are to sonic analysis as VC people are to colored variants of Warped Tour acts.

I wonder why these serious record collectors aren't into collecting a dozen variants by girly-boy, something-core bands?

gud reacted to Adam10647 in Post a PIC Of Your Collection (Band or Label ONLY)
Since I manged to get the RSD Pennyroyal Tea 7in I'd take a picture of my Nirvana stuff. Sorry the pic a bit blurry had to stand on my couch to get everything in the shot. Fun to look at this stuff all together, I've been collecting Nirvana stuff since I was 12 or 13. Some of favorite stuff here:
Dave Grohl signed Nevermind CD
Original Blew 12 in
limiter 20th anniversary Nevermind Pic Disc set #ed 410
Still got lots of stuff to find but thought I'd share what I got.

gud got a reaction from andrewlucas in Mary Poppins soundtrack. Limited Edition Preview copy no. 93
forgive the sarcasm above, zebrat...
but it's kind of hard to give advice without a description or catalog #.
The "Original Cast Soundtrack" on Buena Vista Records (BV 4026) in mono is pretty common.
The stereophonic version (different cover) is a little more rare.
The Disneyland Records "Mary Poppins" (ST 3922), with storybook, isn't the original cast (while Marni Nixon could sing, she was never as cute as Julie Andrews) is probably the next-to-top value.
There's a picture disc which if it's anything like the other pic discs in the Disney series, they didn't hold up well to time and the sound quality is awful. Not worth much, unless its just for the visual.
And there's a "10 Songs from Mary Poppins" which is a down-sized version of ST 3922, but re-packaged as DQ -1256. Not as high value as the others.
Find out which one you've got.
Check out a Goldmine Record Album Price Guide at your local library which will list "going" prices for Still-Sealed records.
Or go to buyvinyls.com to see what it's going for on ebay today.
Hope this helps.
Now let the kids resume their game.

gud got a reaction from henster311 in RSD 2013: Tell your stories and share what you bought here!
Short Story:
The Cure - Kiss Me x3
Porno for Pyros - S/t (very nice tie-dye record)
Titus Andronicus - RSD
At The Drive-In - Relationship of Command
Deep Purple/Type O Negative - Highway Star
Doors/X - Soul Kitchen
South Park - San Diego
Uncluded- Delicate Cycle
Demosexual - 7"
everything i wanted plus more. much more than i wanted to spend.
Long Story:
I called the night before to make sure that all the records i wanted were gonna be there. They were cool and told me how many of each one they had. I got to Schoolkids around 7am, about an hour before it opened. There were about 30 people in line ahead of me. Started up conversations with "So, what are you here to get?" and that pretty much kept the dialog going for the next hour. Owner came out and explained the rules: you're in line, stay in line from here to the aisles to the cash register, don't cut ahead, wait and be patient. Only 1 copy per person. He's a great guy, everyone here loves that he owns the store now. Everything for RSD was down the middle aisle in alphabetical order; 12", 7", dvd's, swag, etc.
Only one annoying complaint i'd like to file here: I knew what i wanted, so when i flipped through the bins it was easy to find everything. It's pretty simple when all the titles are together, when you see what the first one is, you can just flip forward all 10-20 copies to the next color jacket. Well, there was a guy about 4 people ahead of me who fingered each title and each album like every one was different and he had to see it, very slowly. I'd understand if he was lookin for a variant or a numbered edition, but that wasn't the case here. Half-way down the aisle, one guy behind him asked him if he could skip ahead of him. He starts to remind the guy that cutting wasn't allowed, but this dude wasn't asking, he went straight around him to the check-out line. Ok so we're all standing there waiting for this guy to touch every album in the store, the line in front of him as moved on and checked out, the line behind me is starting to lean around to see what the hold up is. I've had the opportunity to pick up a few albums i wasn't even interested in, but since they line isn't moving and i'm just standing there; might as well read all the cover labels on that Flaming Lips box set...(if only my parents had a trust fund in my name). Then i notice the next two guys finally just go around him. So i'm the next guy now and this dude is sweating. The kind of sweat that started to pour down his face in streams. He's dripping on records! it wasn't like it was hot inside the store. After standing out in the cold, it was actually very comfortable inside. He was on the last bin before the 7"s and i finally said "hey, man i'm just gonna step around you to the 7"s and let you finish" to which he starts to huff and shake his head, which makes more sweat fall on records... I grabbed the ones i wanted and got out.
I'm not sayin the dude was wrong, i'm just tryin to tell a story here. relating an experience. This guy was sweating out on RSD!

gud reacted to moodydan in PO: Clutch "Earth Rocker"
If you were wondering, this album is bad ass.
If you like saying, "It's better than they're last few records, because it rocks a little more like the earlier stuff," you will be happy.
If you like saying, "It's only available on black vinyl?" then, fuck you.
It's still got the influence of the last 2 records, but the old edge is there, too. It sounds real nice.
That is my review.

I got the record this weekend too.
Awesome album.
Somewhere between 'Pure Rock Fury' and 'Blast Tyrant'
Better than the last 3 albums combined.
Can't wait to see em again when they come to town!

gud got a reaction from Bender in What record in your collection ...
I have some records that my dad played when i was < 5. These were the records that i first learned how to drop a needle on:
Cat Stevens - Where Do the Children Play
Elton John - Honkey Chateau
Beatles - white album
Neil Diamond - Taproot Manuscript
Needless to say, they're scratched up as hell. I've since bought re-issues and better versions, but i still have these originals that I will never get rid of. I have a story about nearly every one of my records.
