I don’t think we’ll ever get another Crack The Skye, but if they put out another Emperor of Sand I’ll be very happy.

Was bummed about this too. Especially considering we have 16 songs to play with here, the fact the decided to go this route was a bit odd. Though, I'll admit, I dont have any idea the cost implications of going the half-speed 45RPM master route vs. typical 33 1/3 RPM with a side D etching. But here's how they could've easily, again taking financials out of the picture, went with the 45RPM config (below).

A couple pros I get from going this route:
A Colossal Wreck & Desperate Pleasures get together, as they were meant to be 3 of 4 sides are almost right at that 12 minute side optimal length. Even SIDE C at 14 minutes is within the maximum
    SIDE A
    1. Dark Distance               2:54
    2. Sly                                         2:31
    3. Planet Shit                       3:57
    4. Post-Boredom              3:16
    SIDE A RUNTIME          12:38

    SIDE B
    5. A Colossal Wreck         2:28
    6. Desperate Pleasures  3:12
    7. All This And War           3:11
    8. Thing With Feathers   3:38
    SIDE B RUNTIME            12:29

    SIDE C
    9. Hostile Architecture  2:37
    10. AWOL                               2:11
    11. The Whip                        2:30
    12. White Void                     3:35
    13. Distress Rehearsal    3:13
    SIDE C RUNTIME             14:06

    SIDE D
    14. sexsexsex                        3:28
    15. People Verses              3:33
    16. We Go Together         5:03
    SIDE D RUNTIME            12:04

PS: this took like 30 minutes of my time. For absolutely no reason, dont hate.

I believe so. But it's confusing now b/c the ROG version is supposed to be Clear & Green.

Also, seeing how negative that last post sounded, I'll just add....
I haven't listened to this album start-to-finish in quite a while, and crushed mastering aside, it still holds up. "Eriatarka" kicks like a fuckin' mule. Brings back memories.
I just wish there was a more dynamic master out there somewhere. I'm mostly collecting and listening to 70s and 80s pressings these days and you just can't beat a really good analog rock recording cut well where you can crank it all day.....

Well, I upgraded my table last year, and that alone costs $2K.

And I just played the MOV gold and the VMP gold pressing, back to back, Record 1 only.

And they sound basically identical. I mean, I could lie and say the "artist approved" Clouds Hill pressing is more dynamic, or clearer, but honestly.... In a blind test I couldn't tell these apart. They're both cut extremely loud and not much more dynamic than the original CD. Both of them even have surface noise in the same spots. (Beginnings of each side during the quiet parts.)

I mean, this is par for the course for Cedric & Omar, but it's still hilarious they pitched a fit over the MOV reissue, cancelled the FtM MOV release, waited 7 (??) years to do their "official" reissues, and.... They're basically the same. I guess the "back cover" is now the "front cover." GREAT.

I still have the box set sealed, definitely selling that now once prices start going up in a few years.

The Type O negative FB account posted yesterday about a "premature" listing. They said more info would come out in August and implied to wait as they will have several editions

I think the quality of the set is fine as it is. I just think this set as it is could have been priced more like $350 instead of keeping the price as is and making all the components of it heavier.

I really enjoy the way the set came out. I have my critiques over excluding the FTM single and how the two 12" singles could have just been an A and B sides of one 12" single. But in the end I'm glad to have the albums in my favorite format and on my favorite vinyl color.

What OP means is that the jacket for Landscape Tantrums isn’t really a jacket, but rather the size and thickness of a printed inner sleeve. Flimsy.

The set is nice in a bubble, but is a disappointment/overpriced at $500. The comparisons in my collection are the Paramount Records boxes that Third Man did (far and away better quality and more interesting sets for $400 each) and the first edition AOF box (reasonably comparable to this one for less than half the price at CAD $250). So clearly a lot of pocketed profit here that could’ve been put toward a higher-quality product, more extras, etc.

The Mars Volta is tearing us in twain! Can we all agree that simply collecting records in the first place makes us all a little wrong? Scruffy is free knowing what he does  is basically useless.

If anyone with warped discs or other defects is considering reaching out to CH customer service, I highly recommend doing so. Just had a perfect correspondence asking for a replacement of Ampu LP1 and it’s all being taken care after one mail. They took my adress from my original order and ship it out on monday. Perfect.

    So, some quick maths:
    2 x 3LP (including Mr Muggs lol) $100
    4 x 2LP $160
    1 x1LP $25
    total: $285

    Box retail: $479
Value of the box, book, flat, Landscape Tantrums LP, and the two 12” single sided with etchings, two pins = $194
    🤔

Even if they were going to be, they can’t now, right?

Or they can, just like they’ll do a color or two eventually, if not this time.

Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me.  Individual represses – unless they’re like $80 a pop – do help the casual or unfortunate fans who didn’t obtain the box (for whatever reason that may be).  But at the end of the day, CH and TMV have no interest in “helping out the fans”.  It all boils down to money so they’re going to double-dip on boxset owners in any way they can.  I would anticipate either colored variants or some kind of luxury selling point – 180 gram, tip-on jackets, foiled # stamp – to tempt anyone who has a box.

    That was speedy, nice.
I know it won’t happen but can you imagine if the individual reissues were actually 180 gram?  The outrage would be unreal.

    So, it came.
All complaints are warranted and valid.
    But...
    This thing is fucking sick.
(I have no idea where I'm gonna put it)
Also, it's packed very smartly. My box was all kinds of fucked up from transit, but the foam layer around the boxset saved it.
    It was worth the $500.

You should partner with a vinyl sub service, like Vinyl Me Please or Magnolia, that brings in a lot of new/first time collectors who would be interested in a slightly fancier accessory for their exciting new hobby. People here will e-stab you to death if you dare try and start any vinyl related business that isn’t printing bootleg Brand New LP slip covers.

I've been comparing some of the first pressings with the boxset.
    Here's what I found:
-Boxset sound quality is superior across the board
-Cover art is more vibrant than on older pressings, and the deloused jellyfish artwork for the boxset is a different take than the one used on the mov pressing
-For the most part, materials used on the originals are of better quality. Especially ftm. The original is like cardboard whereas the boxset version is flimsier
-Vinyl weight is noticeably heavier on older pressings
    -Landscape Tantrums is awesome

Overall, the boxset is sweet. You can tell a lot of heart went into making the music and artwork shine.
It'd be nice to have an At the drive in boxset to accompany this one, but after reading the boxset liner notes, I doubt that's ever going to happen.

I still haven’t received a shipping email from numero for Challenge, but yesterday I sent them an email asking for a status on my order. I received a prompt reply saying they were prepping my order for shipment now (what a coincidence!), and my order page on the website is now updated saying shipped. No tracking number, though.

So if you haven’t seen an email, or your order page still says pre-order (like mine did), shoot ‘em an email.
