I thought that was implied all along in the show. Granted i read the books, so maybe i am confused. Cersei gave Lancel the strong wine to keep Robert drunk at the boar hunt and then Robert was gored. I think Varys talks to Ned Stark about this when Ned is jailed in season 1.
