This is embarrassing for our country, no matter who is running for President. yeah, that's riot behavior. it's one thing to protest, disagree, or offend, but to physically cause harm to others for exercising their freedom to support a presidential candidate is out of control. not only that, but the mayor of san jose: sam liccardo (a Crooked Hillary supporter), had the audacity to blame TRUMP for causing the violence against his own supporters, even though he (sam liccardo) gave the order for police to stand down and not interfere. If Trump is elected, I would fully expect for there to be riots. I would agree that's not appropriate, but also might argue that these people are disenfranchised and angry and don't have a proper outlet. So their actions aren't surprising, even if they are wrong. And also the article does mention arrests. 21 minutes ago, WAXXX said: there's more. even ABC is covering it: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/violence-breaks-trump-rally-san-jose-protesters-hurl/story?id=39576437 I can't watch the videos because I'm at work, but the article you posted seems much closer to the truth. Eesh. That doesn't sound great. Still, one kid doesn't necessarily represent them all. The flag burning has been an interesting issue. I don't know if I agree that it helps or hurts Trump. Because here's the thing: studies that I don't feel like tracking down right now but definitely exist have shown that Republicans and Democrats view the American flag differently. It's why when you go to a Tea Party rally you see a lot of very clean flags and when you go to an Occupy Wallstreet rally, people are dragging flags, burning them, waving flags with corporate logos instead of stars. Because Republicans tend to view symbols of patriotism as powerful and meaningful. And generally Democrats just see them as pictures and symbols. Or: someone on the left is far less likely to have an emotional reaction to a symbol of patriotism. I don't remember if there was an exact reason why that was or not. I'd have to look it up again. (Something like the left is even a little wary of being too patriotic). But if left-wing anti-Trump protestors burn American flags, it's not something that's going to radically affect a person who is also left-wing. But it'll definitely piss off a right-winger and get a message into the media. So it doesn't help their cause because it reinforces bias among the right-wing, but it doesn't hurt their cause because that bias pretty much already existed. nancy_raygun
Super off-putting you keep putting Trump and America in all caps and protestors in quotation marks. 3 minutes ago, WAXXX said: with 45% of the eligible population not voting last election, this is the type of stuff that sways moderates and gets people to take the day off work and cast a ballot. People aren't going to vote for a candidate just because they disagree with the way the media is presenting their detractors. That's ridiculous. If anything, if they want to get rid of these people they vote for the person the protestors are advocating for, so that they'll just shut up. There's no logic in voting for a person because you hate their protestors. If they're elected, that's another 4 years of dealing with their protestors. If they lose, protestors go home. If they lose, protestors go home. yeah, the TRUMP and AMERICA are over-the-top. i've said "protester" as a jab at the crooked media who covers these stories. you stop being a protester when you start punching people, breaking things, and smashing cars. the actual word is rioter. i'm not saying that hordes of people will vote for TRUMP specifically because of the protesters and rioters. just that they will cause him to get more votes on top of many other reasons. i've seen a bunch of people on social media and know people in real life who have been vocal against TRUMP, but will now vote for him because they see how biased and crooked the media are in their coverage of any non-establishment candidate. and there's absolutely logic to it. TRUMP has made it clear that he wants to deport illegal immigrants and build a wall. there's a significant portion of the protesters and rioters who are not citizens of the USA, especially from the riots in california and new mexico. sadly, many of them aren't even really advocating for anything, other than hate for TRUMP. voting for the candidate that protesters and rioters prefer in order to get them to stop throwing a violent baby tantrum magnitudes of times greater than anything TRUMP himself has ever done, is a horrible choice. it's the equivalent of giving in to a terrorist's demands. I work with guys who are voting for Trump because they want to distance themselves from over-the-top Liberals and uninformed protesters. I'm Mexican, and there are a lot of us shouting, "Fuck Trump," for his marginally bigoted bullshit only. From my perspective, these are often individuals who don't know who our current vice president is, what the Federal Reserve is, or why price control is a negative thing. These are purely emtional reactions based on some dumb shit an idiot said. Using violence to get a point across is never ok. I also find it disgusting police will stand down during a situation like this but will straight up murder someone for committing a non-violent crime like selling cigarettes. He's said some ignorant/sexist bullshit but hasn't outright said anything malicious or blatantly racist. Not excusing his gross behavior by any means, but he's not on stage doing a Lisa Lampanelli set. If you guys have a couple free hours this weekend I highly recommend you listen to Gary Johnson's interview on Joe Rogan's podcast. He touches on a lot of the flaws between both parties, and how our quality of life could be better if we minimized the state and focused on legitmate issues that are slowing down the prosperity of this country and encroaching on all of our personal freedoms. Shitty Rambo
"Democratic Socialism" is still Socialism. Throwing the word 'Democratic' in front of it doesn't change it's meaning at all. The state will continue to take money I've earned against my will by threatening to lock me in a cage if I refuse to pay it. Unless you know some teachers and doctor who are willing to work for free then I don't know where you think the money for labor, infrastructure, and utilities is going to come from. I can't comprehend how anyone would think there's any method we could take from a socialist country and apply to our own without a disasterous outcome. Venezuela is in shambles while we have this conversation on the Internet via computers/phones (things that wouldn't exist without a freemarket or capitalism). http://dailysignal.com/2016/06/03/venezuelas-crisis-is-the-latest-example-of-why-socialism-doesnt-work/ People need to stop treating college and health care like they're entitlements when really they're both privileges. Nobody is going to let you bleed out in the streets if you don't have health insurance, but if you're expecting regular treatment then you should expect to pay for it. College isn't any different, get a job and pay your way through it. If you can't afford it then learn a trade like plumbing or welding. Your opinions probably align with his more than you think. Bernie Sanders isn't going to get the candidacy, and although I agree with him on several social issues, he's an economic illiterate. NapalmBrain
But Libertarians are just as economically illiterate IMO. Their whole lack of taxation view kind of collapses the economic system when you need it for public services and what not. The alternatives I hear Libertarians propose like selling off parts of the US and increased service fees don't seem more sane to me than returning to pre-Reagan tax brackets
