A bunch of the ones mentioned, and also I was listening to Around The Fur by Deftones earlier, and thinking "My Own Summer" is a pretty badass and kind of unique way to start an album. "*Boom CHA!* *badass guitar riff*" and then after a few measures, the vocals and bass come in. It's definitely a statement right off the fuckin' bat.

I feel like most of my favorite albums have incredible openers/closers, so this is hard to narrow down.

I agree with a bunch listed so far. Some of my favorites on top of those:

Thrice - Kill me Quickly (+Firebreather, +Broken Lungs, +Cold Cash)

Sparta - Cut Your Ribbon

Against Me! - TSR

Just about every Strike Anywhere opener

Chuck Ragan - The Boat

Gunmoll - Less Than You Hoped For

Motion City Soundtrack - Cambridge

Damien Rice - 9 Crimes

Welcome to the Jungle by Guns n Roses.

Straight Outta Compton-NWA

Linoleum-Nofx

Knowledge-Op Ivy

Strung out-Too Close too See (thanks Trav good call)

Maybe these all arent the best songs ever, but great ways to open 2 of the more controversial recordings at that time, and 2 of the more quintessential punk recordings of all time (opinion)
