birdwell
I feel like the only person on the planet who doesn't like some part of this band's body of work. I honestly don't care how influential they were/are, I've never enjoyed them. I'm sure this news will devastate their fans greatly though. monsterrod
Yeah, I thought they broke up years ago. Like birdwell, they never did anything for me. Well, I like the song "Nightswimming" on occasion.

retrospectacle
Is it a coincidence this news is made public the day after Michael Stipe posts online video/photos of his penis? http://www.thedailyswarm.com/headlines/nsfw-michael-stipes-dick-pics-finally-leak-web-michael-stipe/
yancey47
This is my favorite band of all time. Sad news but 31 years is remarkable. Their output from 1982-1988 (album a year and constant touring) is unmatched. They had some ups (Automatic For the People) and downs (Around the Sun) after that but for the most part their music remained quality. Their newest LP is quite good as well. Farewell R.E.M. and thanks for everything.

almightyseancore
R.E.M. was one of those bands i always liked but never loved, there was stuff on every album that i just thought was garbage, and there were other stuff that i thought was fantastic, but there was never really an in between. also, i don't think i've listened to a full album of ANY new material new since adventures in hi-fi back in 96. Probably the only thing Heisel has ever posted on this board (or possibly ever said in his lifetime) that I agree with.
