thebear Posted September 29, 2011 Share Posted September 29, 2011 Fat has been taking advantage of their most rabid fans for a while now (charging more for color, the hardcore 7"/10"/12", colored reissues of in-print records) and I don't really see anything wrong with it. People can continue to feel like they need to buy dumb shit, and I will continue to buy reasonably priced LPs of releases I am interested in. That may be true, but I don't think these box sets are taking advantage of the fans. It's no secret that vinyl is having a resurgence now, and some fans (like myself) don't want to scour the backmarket for overpriced records that we missed. That Lagwagon boxset covers their entire career, and isn't really that overpriced compared to buying the albums separately. If the NOFX set follows suit, then I'd say it's less taking advantage of older fans and more helping out the newer ones. I did think all those Hardcore releases were nuts, though. It's a lazy deflection, and serves to make the speaker look ignorant. There is nothing wrong with making a valid criticism about a band, label, or release. I don't have the DCMW, Timmy, Pods, All of Me, Fat Club 7", but I have everything else and I don't think it will be worth the money to buy all these doubles and then 5 or 6 7" I don't have.
