kriss
I always thought the chronological method of filing was a bit out there - in my mind I have images of a future Rob Gordon 40 years down the line who is stricken with Alzheimers and has to spend three hours looking for his Pavement LP's. bobfrombob
I would have filed that Doors record under "crap I will never listen to" category
travis
Alphabetical by band/artist then alphabetical by album title. Pretty simple. Green Tea Papi

kriss
By genre (garage punk, hardcore, krautrock, etc - if I did it purely alphabetical, it would just look awkward to me having stuff like Blink 182 and Can mashed side by side) and if there are enough albums to do so for any particular one, by record label (Tooth and Nail, Hozac, In The Red, etc)

idreamofpunk
I do alphabetical by band, chronological by album. Kriss, as in awe as I am at the size of your collection, I would never be able to find anything.
kriss
yeah, that's the thing. When a record collection is filed by genre, no collection will ever be completely alike since MY definition of what a band is may be different than someone else's. Folks will look into a genre to find a band and come up empty because I have that band filed elsewhere.

Deetron next to Deftones just doesn't work for me. DJ mentality = genre classification.
