kidamnesiac
Haha yeah the ART DJ II was my first pre in 2005 and "it works" is about the only good thing I have to say about it. As for the Bugle2, if I had one, I'd just hide it behind my other components. It's just a preamp. It doesn't need to look fancy. It should sound good, and if reviews are to be believed, it really does.

just a normal guy kevin
You guys need to do what I did and buy a pre-amp with a digital screen, that shows digital dolphins swimming and cool star patterns when it's on, so you know it's working and you are getting your $40 worth. The DJ PRE II just sits there and does nothing as you listen to music.

I wish I had known about the dolphins, now I feel like I made the wrong choice.

Corgipants
My fiancee got me a basic for my birthday, is it worth upgrading the platter to the acrylic and the cartridge? Also is the cartridge replacement as much as a pain as I've read online (every post or review I've read made it sound like a pain)?
vinyl addict
Cartridge install and alignment is not as difficult as people make it seem. Its 2 screws
YouTwo
You also need something to measure VTF.
The Saint
Installing the belt on this thing at the 33rpm setting is the biggest pain in the ass. I don't know if I'm just dumb, but I cannot get it at all.
YouTwo
Also, I'd upgrade the cart before the platter. It will make a bigger difference. I always have trouble moving the belt from 45 to 33. Not a big deal though.
The Saint
Any tips? I've gotten it before but now I can't seem to get it at all. It can fit to 45 no problem but I've been trying to set it back to 33 for what feels like an hour now. EDIT: Somehow I just got it. I think I was pulling forward too much when trying to put in on. just a normal guy kevin
You have to relax and trust you can fit the belt without much slack/pull and it slips on pretty easily.
LS1BadBird
Weird, i had the opposite problem where I felt like the belt was too loose. I found it really easy to knock it off while changing records.
just a normal guy kevin
Correct. It IS loose. The zen approach to handling it helps with keeping it from slipping off easily. If you touch it like its made of egg shell or try to 'tighten' the loose slack by pulling more than necessary, it will slip off.
Corgipants
Also, I'd upgrade the cart before the platter. It will make a bigger difference. I always have trouble moving the belt from 45 to 33. Not a big deal though. Yeah I realize that. Will probably wait until closer to Christmas and do them both at once anyway since summer is my slow season and I'm in hardcore saving mode. Also sold most of my stero equipment during college so I have to re-buy that too.
aarondltd
Having to move the belt is one thing that makes me not sure about the U-turn but I dont play 45s too much so its not that big of a deal.

Moving the belt is beyond easy. Takes 1 second.
aarondltd
Moving the belt is beyond easy. Takes 1 second. It had been a while since I looked at the U-turn and I had it mixed up with one of the Pro-jects with the belt under the platter.

How many turntables do you have that you can't remember how they work?
