yeah, that's it...

Eh, I'd be pissed if my local record store decided against participating because they didn't like the releases. There are plenty on this list that I personally find atrocious (Incubus for example) , but based on some other replies, realize that others are very interested in.

"Pre-orders" are against the rules in the sense that they are actually selling something before RSD and keeping the people who go to the stores from getting it. The stores who do the preorders like mentioned in this thread are only selling it if there is stock after the people who go to the store get theirs. At least I assume that to be the case.

Well, after looking through the list of releases, the only one that caught my eye that I will try to get is the Coheed - Big Beige demos 12". It's only 1,000 but knowing how rabid some of the more overzealous Coheed fans are, I am surely going to walk away empty-handed. Especially at my local store.

So if anyone happens to grab one for a VCer, hook a brotha up! ;)

Preorders are allowed for Black Friday

RSD was designed to help struggling brick and mortar stores by creating an event that would encourage collectors to come out to actual stores. It's not a perfect system. In fact as its grown its actually become a pretty fucking weak excuse for big label commercialism to disguise itself as "indie". That coupled with a shitty culture of elitism that puts smaller stores in jeapordy of missing out has made RSD something that gets a lot of hate. But it's still designed to get people out to stores. I think with a few adjustments it could be awesome again, but letting people buy stuff online is a step in the wrong direction.

It's gonna be sold online one way or another after the fact. At least the stores can get the money instead of flippers. Don't get me wrong, I know where you're coming from, but still. Not everyone has a local store, so ordering from a small shop beats ordering from some eBay seller who bought a bunch of them. My store is hipster as fuck, so if its not a release that they deem worthy, they don't get it, which leaves me fucked every time. RSD 2012 was a good example. My store got everything except the stuff I wanted. Literally all I got was one Crosses 7".

yea.. i'll probably snag S.C.I.E.N.C.E. and Make Yourself for nostalgia purposes, don't think there's any reason to camp out for those though. I don't see my world ending if I don't get anything else.. they all seem like releases that would be a lot cheaper if they weren't attached to RSD.. people will buy them though so the madness will continue.

I ended up preordering the releases from these 3 bands.

Grateful Dead

JEFF The Brotherhood

Velvet Underground

Since there's no Phish or Ryan Adams release this time around, the only one I really want to get (Grateful Dead) is /7500 so there shouldn't be any problems getting a copy. Getting the JTB 7" and VU LP would just be gravy but I doubt I'd head out to a store to get either of those.

Any idea why?

That's no fun.

They didn't mention, but in the past if it was going to be pressed later and released, they usually mention it...so it looks to be dead in the water at the moment....

Also, if anyone wants to pre-order the Eric Burden and Greenhornes 12" directly from the label here is the link:

On a quick side note....if you are out or online looking for these items, you may see a disperity in the prices for some of the items.

If a music store is capable of going through a direct label/vendor versus a one stop distributor (e.g. Super D, Alliance, Cobraside) then the cost could be quite drastic.

For instance, the Primus 10" direct is $10.48. That same 10" through a One Stop Distributor---$13.25. A difference of $2.77, which is why you may see the Primus 10" for $14.99 at one store and $18.99 at another. So my point is to try and shop around online or try and get prices ahead of time, as it will save you money in the long run...
