The band has said that they video is not to be taken seriously and it's just a dichotomy of a dark and very metal imagery juxtaposed with hot women showing off their dance moves. I think people are forgetting that Mastodon are from Atlanta and this video is a metal homage to the hot women of Hotlanta shaking their booties! They were also accused of being racist towards Native Americans over a Thanksgiving t-shirt. I don't think the video is sexist, well at least no more than pretty much any other music video. Or maybe it is, but certainly not their intention. As for the statement I think it goes deeper than that. Look at the beginning a man plucks as apple, representative of the fruit of knowledge. There's a guy in a tall goat costume. I think the real concept behind the video is they are in hell and the women represent lust. Anyone who takes it seriously though, obviously doesn't get the juxtaposition. It totally doesn't fit, their wardrobe is completely out of place. People will look for any excuse to pick things apart these days. I think people take issue with the fact that women are valued only for their bodies. What I wonder about is these people complaining, do they think they're without fault? They probably get on the computer and watch porn just like 99.9% of everyone else with access to the internet. Fuck the haters. Sex sells and we all know it, that's just a sad fact about the state of the world.That said this video is not directly trying to sell sex. It's being satirical of rap videos.
