If it makes you feel better...

My roommate bought one of those bowls at a flea market a few weeks ago.

She thought I would think it was cool.

So now it's in our house.

HA!

My mom came back from vacation once and was like "there was this really cool shop and they had BOWLS MADE OUT OF RECORDS, I was thinking about buying you one...but then I didn't."

Erik & I went to a record shop today in Hastings-On-Hudson, NY and they were trying to sell a copy of TSSF for $30.  When I saw it I said to Erik "WHY is this $30?" Then the dude who was working walked by and said "I can go lower." ...?

I didn't like that shop. Trying to price gouge and take advantage of people who don't know the going rate for records - & records that are still in press!

I went to Zion's Gate downtown the other day, and everything is pretty much $29.99 which I find really weird. They had some great Nirvana bootlegs, but pricing everything at $30 is insane. Nothing at $15,$17, $20, $25, which really bummed me out. There are thanfully a lot of other record stores around here that I need to check out though. Although I did get a Desert Sessions bootleg for $30 which is awesome.

I haven't been in there, but the stuff they list on discogs always seems to be WAY overpriced.  It sucks too because they seem to specialize in metal/heavier music and there really isn't any other store with that focus in the area.

I'd recommend Every Day Music, Sonic Boom and Easy St. Records.  Spin Cycle isn't bad either, but it's kind of hit or miss.  Singles Going Steady is great if punk and the like are what you're in to.

Where do you work? Haha.

Yeah, the name looked familiar, and then it clicked. And you're right. They definitely have an awesome metal / doom / stoner collection. He ordered me Elder's S/T. But yeah, overpriced for sure.

And thanks for the recommendations. I'll check them out. Silver Platter too I believe.

And I want to work there. IT and porn? Sold. Haha.

I haven't been to Silver Platters since they moved locations (they used to be in Lower Queen Anne).  I keep meaning to check it out, but I'm not in that area very often.  Let me know if you ever need a record shopping buddy!
