noalarmplanet
Also as has been pointed out on the news homeland security and FBI have stated they had no intelligence or anything prior to this happening. So either our FBI et al really dropped the ball or its internal which sucks.
booyahachieved
The photo they reference is horrific. I can only hope I'd have stones half the size of his to act like he and others did in the heat of the moment. That's probably the best way to describe that photo. At first I saw the version that was cropped where it only shows above his knees. Then I saw the uncensored one and my stomach just turned sour immediately. I don't think I'll ever get that image out of my head. I can't even imagine how much bloddlosss would be involved in that kind of situation. I can only hope they got him to an emergency medical team and that he's alright.
dave_jones
This was actually one of the first things I saw. It's eerie, but there is so much in the way of everyone pointing a finger and saying "look, it's that guy get him!" There were probably hundreds of people on nearby rooftops. I don't think people who haven't lived in Boston realize how many people flock to their rooftops in Boston during the warm weather.

thebiglebowski
So what am I supposed to do if a bomb goes off somewhere where I am? Hit the deck? Run away from it? Obviously I'm not talking about dodging the shrapnel of the first one. Just wondering if there is an actual protocol taught to law enforcement, military, or just people who live in places where this happens more often. Police are told to not help right after the bomb goes off. Reason being is that when there's one there might be more. It is common over in the Middle East for one suicide bomber to explode himself and then when people come to help another sets his device off; thus this kills more people. Thankfully the casualties at this point are small. Also I think in the heat of moment if you are in the right state of mind you would try your best to help. One of the runners had on a belt and he helped someone stop bleeding by tying off circulation. It's remarkable how caring people are. It's the good acts that make me appreciate that we still have ample loads of people who are compassionate for others.

Probably the best thing to do is stay calm, be aware and find a location that is sturdy/strong. That'd be my first reaction honestly
thebiglebowski
I was just a little confused by the reports of how many people lost limbs but so few fatalities. I was wondering if the shrapnel was ejected low to the ground. So by hitting the ground, you would actually be bringing your head / chest into the line of fine. There was a professor who teaches about political terrorism that called into a radio station and he was saying that this feels like a domestic terrorist act. He pointed at the tax day / patriot's day connection as an anti-government agenda from a domestic terrorist. He also pointed out that Eric Rudolph used a secondary device in one of his abortion clinic bombings and that the Columbine kids had plans to use explosive devices on first responders that weren't put into use. So not that that it is anything definite but I thought it was interesting to have someone who studies terrorist attacks opinion pointing towards domestic terrorism. thebiglebowski
Also, in case anyone still hasn't heard, there were no unexploded devices. The bomb squads blew up a few pieces of suspicious luggage (things with laptops, electronic cords, etc) to be 100% safe. After investigating the remnants, they determined they were not explosives. Word seems to be getting out, but there are still people talking about unexploded devices.

futures
This whole thing is so unsettling. My friend who I had mentioned on the 1st page that works in Boston is a secretary at Children's Hospital. She told me that her ride in on the T this morning was almost like a ghost town. The hospital is being heavily guarded at the ER entrances. She said the doctors she works for directly are stunned at what they've seen. =\ It's so sad.
