PO: O'Brother - Disillusion

Recommended Posts

I think I may be in the minority, but I've been a little disappointed with this album. There are some songs that I really like, but it seems that half of the songs on it have lost something that I really liked from their last album. Kind of the atmospheric/post-rock feel that Garden Window had, maybe. Maybe it'll grow on me more. I've only made it through it a handful of times, so that's definitely possible. But, it seems like most of what I've seen from reviews have been positive, so to each their own. Good record still, just perhaps moving a little away from my taste. Thoughts?

I agree with this.  While its not a bad record, I don't think it's all that great. I really love Death of Day, and they definitely seem to be creeping away from that sound.

I'm on the opposite end, while I like all three, to me Death of Day is the most forgettable.  They were all but a (really good) Thrice clone.  Garden Window we started to see a departure and they started to develope their own sound.  Disillusion is 100% O'Brother.

While I loved their rockier stuff, it was always the slow moody stuff that hit me hard (I LOVED Basement Window), so this is right up my alley.

I've listened to this three times through and for the most part I like it.  His voice will always be the weak link for me, I get too much 'modern hard rock' out of it.  I do like the whisper stuff though.  Transience is the only song I just plain don't like.  It sounds like it would fit too well on a radio playlist between Godsmack and Mudvayne.  The title track is the stand out for me all around.  I need to listen to it more though
