I'm sure it's not a definitive list, so I thought it would be neat to post and maybe people can post their own suggestions to build upon this list of 27 of the coolest record stores in the world.

Hymie's, Extreme Noise and Treehouse are all better record stores than Electric Fetus. It's a fine shop, but its definitely not the best in Minneapolis.

In all the touring I've done, I can't believe the only record store on this list I've actually had the time to go in is Grimey's, haha.

I wasn't overly impressed with Amoeba.  It wasn't a bad store by any means and I still spent plenty there, maybe it just got overly built up.

 

I'll check out Waterloo when I'm in Austin in a few months.

I've only been to Waterloo. I should probably make my way to Forever Young at some point since it's like 35-40 minutes away.

Eleven years ago, when I was living in New Haven, Cutler's barley carried vinyl if any at all.

I'm surprised there aren't more record stores in Japan on the list. Every time I hear about shops over there people are ecstatic and have crazy stories/finds.

been to a couple spots on the list. Amoeba is the only one that really blew me away, more for their massive selection than anything else. Atom Heart is just your standard boutique record store, no great shakes, i certainly visited better shops in Montreal (which i unfortunately can't recall the names of).

this. i think i've only purchased like 4 records from there ever. not only are the prices pretty insane, i'd say about 40% of the records they have in the bins are 12" singles. 

i think i'm one of the few people that has been to grimey's that was less than impressed.

I'd assume so. I've been to a couple of these and don't have much good to say. My experience with most of the nationally well known record stores is as you described. I'm admittedly pretty picky when it comes to my likes and dislikes in a record store though. A high quality, easy to browse used section is about all that does it for me.

I haven't been to any of the stores on the list. I've got to get traveling more!

Double Decker Records in Allentown PA is heaven on earth. Also Celebrated Summer and The Sound Garden in Baltimore.

Even though The Thing is included here as well, I wouldn't mind browsing there, but I should be allowed to smoke, otherwise my patience wouldn't keep up.
