sinatrasdead got a reaction from Velocity of Sound in PO: Meet The Residents - One Time Pressing - 500 Lime Green - No Repress
The pitch from the Modern Harmonic site (preorder here):
We are ecstatic to be releasing this album but sad at the same time as this Modern Harmonic Pressing sounds glorious but is strictly limited to 500 copies. No reorders. No other colors. No shit? No shit.
This is a preorder. Records will ship as soon as we recieve them. Please note that orders containing any items that are on preorder will ship in full when all items are in stock.
• Gloriously mastered by Joe Lizzi and cut & pressed by Third Man in Detroit. • Exquisitely restored artwork matching the original Ralph Records mono pressing. • Pressed on opaque lime green vinyl. • This is a stunner that we will be crushed to see go and when it's gone, it's gone. Don't blame us if you sleep on it and it gets crazed Discogs pricing as we wish we could make more but can't. Due to the extremely limited nature of this title we've decided to make it available direct to you only. This will not be available via other sellers.
Now that we've gotten all that out of the way, let's see what Pitchfork has to say about the record:
"Unlike other singular artists-- say, Tom Waits, or the Flaming Lips-- who began in more conventional modes and gradually developed their own voices, the Residents pulled their never-heard-before sound from the womb fully-formed. Throughout the album's 12 tracks you can hear all the basic elements they still play with today: murky atmospheres, odd time signatures, bouncing beats, skewed classical figures, and simple melodies that sound both child-like and eerie.
Especially distinctive are the vocals of someone first referred to by fans as the 'lead' Resident (he would become known as Mr. Skull after he traded his eyeball mask for a skeleton head, and lately has been referred to as 'Randy'). His pitch and phrasing neatly encapsulate the many moods of the band's music. He can be funny, creepy, nerdy, cartoon-like, surreal, and terrifying (especially when he growls in a gravelly low register), often all at the same time. His signature is strongest on 'Smelly Tongues,' wherein his wry croon sounds like the slow-motion cry of a somnambulant ringmaster.
So the Residents immediately made music that sounded new, but what about turning other people's music into something equally unprecedented? Meet the Residents takes care of that with 'Boots,' a 53-second aural nightmare of demented vocals and muffled sounds that is purportedly a 'cover' of Nancy Sinatra's 'These Boots Are Made for Walkin'.' Such absurd bastardization extends to the album's artwork, a parody of Meet the Beatles! featuring the defaced visages of the Fab Four on the front, and credits to 'John Crawfish, George Crawfish, Paul McCrawfish, and Ringo Starfish' on the back."
– Marc Masters (Pitchfork)
Hopefully you've already preordered it if you've read this far. We certainly intended that and apologize if they've all sold out while you were reading. We maybe should have made this shorter, but we didn't even write it so it's only half our fault.

I really hope the colored vinyl doesn't cause any noise in the otherwise sonic perfection that is the WWF 80's novelty albums.

sinatrasdead reacted to tre in we've hit critical mass: United isn't accepting new customers for the time being
Anyone who worked with United in the early 2000's probably had to deal with that call from Beth telling you that your job has been delayed because of some new Elvis Presley repress that bumped your job. This was long before RSD and the nu vinyl boom. This isn't anything new, and bigger jobs, and clients bump smaller ones all the time, in pretty much any industry. United not taking new clients makes them actually look better than if they continued to take new jobs, and extended the turnaround to even more comical lengths.
Also, our Code Orange and Punch LPs were delayed because the train that they were on derailed. So yeah.

To be fair to Crosley, they were into records long before most users on this board.

Please don't tell that to the bands on my DIY label.

At this point any established label should have a pressing planet that they have a relationship with it. I dont see this being a problem unless you want to press 100 records of your best frieds band to sell at VFW shows

sinatrasdead got a reaction from ajhall04 in Disc Makers reopens vinyl pressing plant
Confirmed Disc Fakers here, http://www.digitalmusicnews.com/permalink/2014/06/12/discmakers
We are indeed using Gotta Groove as our replication partner during this launch. It’s important for us to manufacture in the US, and they are the only US plant with a uniformly stellar reputation for quality.
Our press release said we’re back to offering vinyl to artists, which is true. And Gotta Groove is indeed using the same Hamilton presses – lovingly restored – that were last used to press our records some 15 years ago.
We’re hopeful that the broad reach Disc Makers has will make it easier for artists to get vinyl made. Which, if market forces prevail, will likely lead to an expansion in capacity in the market.
Tony van Veen
CEO, Disc Makers
Reply Anonymous Friday, June 13, 2014 Tony, you have to admit that press release is purposely misleading. “So now those old Hamilton presses are cranking again. I can smell that unmistakable smell again”. Really? You can smell them running in Ohio? There are a handful of articles today which have all reported that Disc Makers has re opened a factory, so clearly that is the what people understood to be the case from reading your announcement.
Reply Tony van Veen Friday, June 13, 2014 I prefer “stretching the boundaries of truth, but not purposely misleading.” C’mon, no brownie points for coming clean here? I mean, none at all? Surely more egregious sins have been committed by over eager PR departments.

I've got one of only a few of the blood filled Flaming Lips Heady Fwends records that's not sealed so you can actually play it. It's pretty gross as the blood has gotten kinda black and chunky. I blame Ke$ha.
