  1. My father passed away recently and while he didn’t have many worldly possessions he did have A LOT of vinyl records which he treasured. He owned his own business as a night club disc jockey during the 80’s and 90’s and some of my earliest memories are being with him in the DJ booth memorized by the turntable light illuminating the spinning decks. An entire wall of his home was dedicated to the floor to ceiling shelves of vinyl. Pictured here is just a small sampling (maybe 5%) of what he had that I was able to go through so far and take home (I have more pics and video). He spun anything from The KLF to Bowie to Fleetwood Mac and everything in between. He had a binder with every record catalogued and numbered and put a sticker on each record with the corresponding catalog number. They are well worn, none near mint. They are worn because this was his livelihood and passion. Him and my mom would load up their car with heavy crates and head to each new gig. I’m glad to inherit his collection and along with hundreds of vinyl records I also received his two turntables, both Technics SL-1200MK2 in mint condition. I am a bit overwhelmed with the sheer magnitude of the collection, there are many I just can’t keep due to space. I’d like to bring them all to my house and invite friends and local vinyl enthusiasts over to peruse. I am not trying to make money and will keep all of the vinyl that I hold dear. I didn’t have a very close relationship with my father in the last years of his life for many complicated reasons but there is always one thing I knew he wanted, for me to take and care for his vinyl collection. I will honor that and treasure the copies I get to keep and make sure the rest go into great hands. I wanted to share this with a community which would appreciate this share.

  4. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll pick it up eventually. Deluxe version with all the bells and whistles sounded enticing. Have had an OG copy of Calculating for years, and even that has me contemplating buying in haha

  6. I don't know if I agree with it being childish but maybe they thought you were trolling. Who knows. Plus, they don't owe anyone an explanation for why they're selling old touring materials. Musicians sell old amps and instruments they no longer need/use/want/like. Its not like anyone should suggest to them what they do with that money. I'm not sure I understand the impetus for your suggestion that they ought to donate a portion of the "proceeds" to charity. The "proceeds" are to fund the members eating, paying rent, bills, etc. Again, and I can't stress this enough: they're not a band who has accumulated some extremely large amount of money by being a band. In all likelihood, they may have actually had some troubles simply breaking even on some tours. Its not an uncommon tale for a lot of bands. Being in a band is not necessarily lucrative at all, especially one that has been hovering under the mainstream for roughly 20 years. I love the band but without a rabid and incredibly wide demand for them to produce output and play shows, its hard to perpetuate the activities of releases and tours. They have done it but its probably pretty hard. The fact that they don't keep a strict schedule of album/tour/album/tour with a near predictable frequency is a clue that its probably not an incredibly financially stable endeavor. There are plenty of bands in scenes that are not mainstream who manage to keep going with record releases and tours consistently and those are ones who are probably doing at least well enough to perpetuate that schedule. I doubt anyone in dredg is impoverished necessarily (to be fair, I have no idea) but there's no reason to view a band advertising the sale of their materials and suggest that they donate any part of the money they earn from it. Let's pretend that even one band member is even slightly food insecure. If that was you and someone suggested that you donate your proceeds of a sale you were conducting to try make sure you could eat, do you think that maybe you might delete a comment that you found distasteful in the face of your struggle?
