Main rack, from top to bottom: Goldring GR-2 turntable, Pioneer Elite BDP-62FD with Parasound Zphono behind it, Toshiba D-R410 DVD Recorder, JVC dual cassette deck (TD-W254), PlayStation 3 sitting on top of Orei BDP-M2 region free 3D Blu-ray player, Bell Satellite HD PVR sitting on Panamax M5100-PM Power Conditioner, Onkyo TX-NR3010 with an Antec AV Cooler on top to keep it running extremely cool to the touch.
I've upgraded my main speakers from Paradigm Monitor 11v4s to Acoustic Energy AElite 3s, they cost over twice as much as the Paradigms but I got an incredible deal from them as the line had been discontinued a couple years ago, paid about 30% of MSRP, yes OF, not OFF. The smaller footprint has allowed me to install them further away from the wall and the bass response now is absolutely magic. All walls have sound insulation behind them, but definitely the new placement brought the bass to a new controlled, deep and precise level. I now no longer listen to CDs with the AVR's DSPs crossover engaged to include my sub (Paradigm Servo 15v2) but rather in PURE DIRECT mode like I do all vinyl.
Here's a pic of the AElite 3s when I first brought them home and had them set-up as my zone2 speakers, before I moved them downstairs.
(Grilles off for pic)

dobyblue reacted to Sidney Crosley in PO Now: Hayden - Everything I Long For (20th Anniversary) 2LP
Limited to 1000 2LP white vinyl.
Everything I Long For 20th Anniversary re-issue and tour
February 16, 2016
Around this time 20 years ago, I released my first full length record, Everything I Long For. It was a collection of 16 songs, some 4-track recordings that had previously appeared on two versions of a cassette called "In September", and a few new ones I recorded with my friend Joao Carvalho.
I've always had a bit of a complex relationship with this record, but with all of the personal baggage it comes with, I can't deny the impact it has had on my life and the meaning it had to a certain group of people in the mid 1990's.
For that, I've made the decision to briefly go back in time and celebrate the first songs I ever wrote with the release of a limited edition, double vinyl copy of Everything I Long For on April 1. The anniversary release is remastered from the original recordings and includes 5 rare demos and out-takes.
Pre-orders of the double-vinyl package, alongside other additional limited-edition merchandise recreated from the time, are now available through theHardwood Records online shop.
There will be an Everything I Long For 20th Anniversary tour through Ontario starting on April 2, with performances of many EILF songs rarely, or never, played live before. Tickets for these shows are on sale this week with ticket details on the Tour page.
Saturday, April 2 Wakefield, QC at The Black Sheep
Sunday, April 3 Peterborough, ON at Gordon Best Theatre
Monday, April 4 Kingston, ON at Grad Club
Thursday, April 7 Hamilton, ON at Dundas Montessori
Friday, April 8 Ridgeway, ON at The Sanctuary
Saturday, April 9 London, ON at Aeolian Hall
Monday, April 11 Waterloo, ON at Starlight
Tuesday, April 12 Owen Sound, ON at Heartwood Concert Hall
Wednesday, April 13 Creemore, ON at Avening Hall
Friday, April 15 Toronto, ON at Trinity-St Paul's United Church

Yep.
The sticker on the package also says ""Remastered from Original Flat Analog Tape".

dobyblue got a reaction from seku in All-encompassing NINE INCH NAILS Thread: Reissues, New Stuff, Soundtracks, Kitchen Sink
I think the production holds up very well on TDS, especially once you've heard it in surround sound. Hard to go back when an album so layered, one that suits surround so well, gets such a well done 5.1 mix. Trent and JB really did this one perfectly. The sawing sound at the end of Closer, starts in the front right and sweeps counter clockwise around the room (works very well if you have good surround speakers capable of hitting 80Hz cleanly, I have floorstanding towers for rears), magnificent!
I don't think The Fragile has been shelved, TR's last bit of info on it said he was deciding just how much effort to put into all the extra bits and pieces he's come across. Let me see if I can find exactly what he said...
February 2014: Yeah, we've done a lot of the work for that. Really what it's come down to is with all the other stuff going on, the Fragile thing in particular, I want to make sure I get it right. You know, we've mixed everything in surround, it sounds amazing, we have a great package ready to go. I just stumbled across 40-or-so demos that are from that era that didn't turn into songs, that range from sound effects to full-fledge pieces of music, and I kind of feel like - something should happen with that.
And I think it has something to do with that package, and I just need the bandwidth to kind of calmly think about it, and decide how much effort I want to devote into that and what to do with it. I have a lot of ideas that could eat up immense amounts of time and I'm trying to weigh out - just think it through. I don't want to pull the trigger on something and go, 'Man, I should have done it in this way.' And I just haven't had a chance to be in a calm place where I can think it through completely and make that decision.
I hope it comes in a variety of packages. I'll buy whatever version I need to in order to get Alan Moulder's 5.1 mix, which I presume will be on a Blu-ray, and for sure will pick up the vinyl release as well.

dobyblue reacted to Plarocks in Peter Gabriel - First 4 Albums Reissued (180 Gram, 2 - LP 45 RPM)
Eh, I actually did a shoot out between the original 1992 EMI pressing of "Us," compared to the 200 gram black Classic pressing of record #1.
We did this on my buddies high end set up, Spica speakers, Blue Point Special cart...(Forget the rest of his set up)
To my ears, the Classic had more "low end," while the original EMI had more "high end" detail.
Pretty much apples and oranges, but I preferred the original EMI pressing, and that cost me about $25 back when it was a "new album."
I have really enjoyed the quality of many/most of the original EMI pressings. I have disliked a few of the Classic pressings.
Although, I would love to find a Clarity copy of Melt though, as it is the only one of the "big four" I am missing

dobyblue reacted to GalacticMelt in Peter Gabriel - First 4 Albums Reissued (180 Gram, 2 - LP 45 RPM)
I have the 200 gram "Car" and "Melt", my two favorites, and I agree they sound great.
I went ahead and purchased one of the 4 LP bundles on the PG site, interested to also hear a side-by-side comparison. I also passed on the Clarity vinyl packs when they came out. However, I heard that "Security" was mispressed during "I Have the Touch", not sure how many copies that affected. Oh well, still wish I had ordered them.

dobyblue reacted to David Loyd in Temple Of The Dog S/T Boot and MOV REISSUE
Received my copy today as did my buddy. Very impressed with the sound quality. And for what it's worth, my buddy who has an original press did a side by side comparison while I was over today and the new MOV repress is light years better as far as AQ goes. The original was extremely fuzzy, hissy and poppy. Lots of surface noise as opposed the the reissue which is nice and smooth.
Wondering if anyone has both and has done a side by side? Interested if anyone else gets the same result. So happy to finally own this classic recording.

Although the price was a bit high compared to Mother Love Bone which was more limited, I really like that Sound Stage allows me to request them open my LPs and ship the records outside the jackets. I forgot with Mother Love Bone to make the request and had wicked seam splits despite the excellent packaging. I didn't forget with Temple of the Dog!

Picture discs suck. I hate all of mine and only have them because it's the only option
If this is reissued properly, I'll buy it at nearly any price as it was one if the first albums I ever owned

God damn it, after all this time they give us a picture disc? Yeah, definitely not picking it up.

dobyblue got a reaction from glass realms in PO: Soundgarden - Superunknown (Picture Disc)
Praying for the last two Soundgarden albums of the 90s to be cut all analogue by Bernie or Hoffman and pressed at Pallas or RTI or something like that, both spread lovingly over 2LPs of course. Hell, maybe even a deluxe 4LP 45rpm edition (as long as the 2LP 33rpm sets are also offered for those that don't like turning over the record twice as often - myself I'd go for the 45rpm).
Picture discs literally suck balls. (I mean that using the newest definition of the word, and use it to highlight how stupid the new definition is)

I would have been fine with this, if there was the option to buy a regular version. Now I'll have to wait for MOV to re-press this.

Let's hope so, if it becomes a cool thing then loads of people will do it and the dicks in the suits will be overruled and the artists who don't understand the concept of dynamics will open their ears to their fanbase's requests.
As for whether it's the new cool thing, I only see people complaining about it on AV forums like here, Steve Hoffman forums, etc., so no...I don't think it's the new cool thing yet.
However it's nice to see that sometimes a review that specifically calls out the dynamic compression can be the #1 most helpful review on Amazon like this one of Soundgarden's Telephantasm - http://www.amazon.com/review/R2G6JU4JL0AIJ7/ref=cm_cr_pr_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B003YRIM0Q&linkCode=&nodeID=&tag=
