VMP finally came in

I don't even feel like listening to these records right now but feel obliged to check the quality

Just a heads up for anyone going to the future shows that pre-ordered this ridiculous vinyl set in the plexi case…everyone at the Chicago date received theirs WITH NO VINYL. Straight up empty case. Told by the merch people that there was something wrong with the yellow record so they will be mailing the records out to everyone. No timeline or answer as to when. Not sure if this will be a continuing theme for the rest of the tour, but just a heads up, ya’ll might also be going home with a $200 empty case.

Show was great - so enjoy that part! 

Picked up my copies from the Glass House last night. Pretty cool box but my only complaint (besides what I paid) is that the little door that slides up and down to remove the records is like 1/8” too small so the door keeps popping out of the railing. 

Same, thought I somehow loosened the railing trying to pry it outta the package. On par for a GJ release - something’s gotta be loose. Makes for a pleasing display though, and live record sounds decent.

Ill be at the first LA show. Curious to see how this plays out. 

So I think we're less than a week away from this tour - what are the actual chances they actually have this in-hand by now?  Everybody get ya popcorn ready...

I just got this for Christmas and I love it. It doesn't smell much out of the bag, but they say to use drops of essential oils to make it work better (which I haven't tried yet).

If your brother has a favorite local record store that he frequents, maybe get some merch from them if they have any. Most brick-and-mortar record stores have their own swag: t-shirts, tote bags, etc. 
 

Yeah.  I don't sell frequently enough (or in large enough volumes) to really be "stung" by this.  It's the principle I find to be the biggest pain in the dick.  An additional 15% cut [on profits] on top of sales tax?  On top of Paypal fees?  And submission of paperwork for the ~10-15 records I may sell throughout a calendar year?  Fuck right off.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that music sales occupied exactly 0% of the lawmakers' minds when drafting this.

Yeah. Unless you're a professional reseller with larger totals claiming close to no profit, I can't imagine the audit risk would be high unless you have some other red flags. 

I mean, if you’re pretty honest about what you paid, the likelihood of an audit seems pretty slim.  

They can audit you and expect you to have the receipts to prove it. If you don’t, then they’ll tax you more since you can’t prove the cost basis. 

Keep in mind here that you only have to pay tax on the profits you make. 
 
You'll file this as self-employment tax. If you sell $1,000 worth of shit in discogs but you paid $900 for it, you only owe the government taxes on the $100 in profit. You'll report $1000 in sales and $900 in expenses. 
 
Edit: you might need to file this as capital gains tax. Records likely fall under collectibles here, in which case your net gains are taxed at 28% regardless of income bracket. Fun stuff. What this really means is that prices are going to go up to make up for the additional hit to profit.

Why release a single LP when you could double your profits and split the songs up between two 12-inch EPs instead? Genius!
