A little sad I've never run into Jarmusch down there (I'm a little further upstate) but I know a bunch of people who have. None of them have approached him....because yeah, I wouldn't approach Jim Jarmusch.

I really disliked Calibre. Just didn't do anything for me. Doesn't earn it's slowburn pace and the pay off is "meh"
 
I really liked the First Purge though. I've still never seen the original, but all of the sequels have been a lot of fun. They aren't exactly "good" movies, but they're solid modern B-movie with a strong throwback vibe without feeling like it's trying too hard. They're basically Assault on Precinct 13/Escape from NY Carpenter worship.
 
Their social commentary is about as subtle as a brick to the face, but I'm a Paul Verhoven fan...so...
 
 
Unrelated: Jim Jarmusch is filming a zombie movie with Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Steve Buscemi, and a bunch of others in Upstate NY right now. My girlfriend's dad ran into Bill Murray at his golf club.

They're kinda silly, but the "haunted" walking tours are fun. It's a cool way to see some shit and hear some local history and murder stories.

Both cigarettes and vinyl cost as much as they do because people will pay it. Well, cigarettes are also taxed out the ass now. But my point is neither price increases are due to just inflation. The cost of manufacturing vinyl has gone up with the increase in vinyl sales, sure. But it's not "$8 a unit for a different color way" more expensive.
 
Obviously most of us seem willing to pay that premium, but we can still be annoyed. I wanted that variant, so I got it. That $8 wouldn't be enough to get me a pack of cigs, but still.

I've defended the Sacred Bones upcharge before because at least there's more actual labor/effort going into them. Not equal to the $ amount, but still. It's not just selecting a different color from the plant.
 
 
I don't know if they still do it, but I know at some point Topshelf Records was charging extra for their rarest variants, but the extra $2 or whatever was going to charity. That I can get down with. Relapse making an extra $800 off one variant just because is kinda lame. I get it and I understand supply/demand, but it doesn't stop it from being lame.
