danthemjfan23 got a reaction from Sidney Crosley in An Impression Of An Original: A Tribute To Against Me! (covers compilation)
on january 1, Artistic Integrity Records will be releasing our 4th annual New Year's Day covers comp. this year's installment is all Against Me! covers, and proceeds from the sale of the album will be donated to Gender Is Over (www.genderisover.com), a clothing company/charity which Laura Jane Grace herself has worked with over the past few years, and whose mission is to provide support to trans & gender nonconforming people, as well as assisting organizations with the same goal.
punknews has made the official announcement of the complete track listing for the album, which can be seen here:
https://www.punknews.org/article/62650/streams-26-band-against-me-tribute-album-announced-punknews-exclusive
there you can also stream one of the tracks from the album, "Mediocrity Gets You Pears (The Shaker)" by Cadaver Dogs.
you can pre-order the comp at the AIR bandcamp page starting right this very second, but it will be officially released 1/1/17.

danthemjfan23 reacted to daegor in I created a website that feeds you curated music news - but only for the artists you like and listen to. I’d love a few more testers!
As far as I am concerned, this is an entirely redundant service that will make the redundancies already present worse (see Green Day above).
UNLESS you incorporate two features:
The ability to weed out duplicate articles (ideally pointing back to whoever actually posted the original article) A true social media feed (elaborated below) I just follow social media accounts of all of the bands I like, but there are some issues with this approach. I have to jump to different platforms to get the full picture (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, sometime artist websites, etc). Pulling all of these sources into one feed would be great. Especially if you could overcome Facebook's inherent filtering, give me everything they post on their Facebook. Also, give me the ability to add the social media accounts of the band members if I want. Or maybe an artist has a Facebook used for promoting the band, but their Instagram is all dog photos, so let me have Facebook on and Instagram off.
If you could pull those sources and I could customize my feed to that level I'd probably turn most of my social media accounts off immediately.

i'm really proud to be a part of a new podcast and youtube series called Live From The Rock Room. my friends Mike Felumlee (of Alkaline Trio/Smoking Popes fame), his wife Stephanie Wysocki, his friend from high school Ken Nowka, and i want to share what we're doing with you. we've only been at it for a couple months, but we've already gotten some amazing bands and artists in, and TONS of great press. here's what we do:
we'll have a band come in to Mike and Stephanie's house in Westmont, Illinois and record 3-5 songs in the practice space that Mike built in their basement. Ken runs the video gear (and edits everything we shot later), MIke records the audio (and mixes it later), and i take still photos. when the bands are done playing, i sit down with them and we do an interview. sometimes those interviews are 15 minutes. sometimes they're an hour.
we upload videos of the individual songs to the LFTRR youtube page
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcGzmfGcuPqQXpuTaLKUSXA
(^^ go subscribe if you haven't already!!) and we take the audio from the full session and make one long podcast out of the whole thing that you can find on iTunes by searching Live From The Rock Room.
it's been a really incredible experience to watch this thing grow from an idea Mike shared with me 6 months ago into what it is today. and it's really exciting to look ahead and see what amazing things are in store later this summer, and down the road for this project.
we've had bands like the Smoking Popes, Shawn Harris from The Matches, Mikey Erg, and Lifted Bells in, and we're definitely going to keep having bigger, well-known bands. but we also take pride in the fact that we have this unique platform to expose you all to new bands and new music from all over the country that you might not otherwise have had a chance to hear, and we're absolutely going to do our best to give those smaller bands the exposure we feel they deserve.
if you haven't liked the facebook page yet, the link is https://www.facebook.com/Livefromtherockroom you should also subscribe to the youtube channel, where we upload 2 new videos each week. please take 43 seconds out of your day and do both of those things for us. we're working really hard to make this something special, and hopefully that is clear. if you have any questions about anything, or suggestions for us, feel free to get in touch. thanks for reading, watching, and listening.

danthemjfan23 reacted to AlexH. in If you could choose an artist to cover another artist's song, which would it be?
I'd have David Bazan covering something by Bruce Springsteen. Springsteen gets a bad rap from alternative-minded people because he's a big establishment rock star with horns and keyboards, but so many of his songs have desolate, angry themes that Bazan could really access a new side of. He could channel some of this:
into a song like this:
Or something like this:
into this:

danthemjfan23 reacted to One Hundred Fifty-Two in Copy of Chung King LP sells for $6000 on discogs
That is funny because MXV is one of the most knowledgeable people on the board and has been around long enough to see this shit first hand.
And it is very possible for a band/bands to ruin an entire genre of music.
Music for the most part is reactionary. One band has the power to shift the mentality of a scene especially one as small and tight as hardcore. A band can come out and do something that hasn't been done before. Bands that play alongside them take note of this new variation and implement it into their music. Then those bands play some shows and spread this sound even further. Pretty soon there are a ton of bands copying that one band.
This doesn't have to be a bad thing, but when the style that is being spread promotes violence and ignorance you now have bands attempting to be more aggressive and fans that are only out to hurt others. That can lead to people that don't want to partake leaving the scene that thy were a part of for many years.

I have to back the "Judge = unnecessary violence" opinion because it looks like just talking about their music makes people fight.

They only had like 18 songs. Is it really that hard to find a starting point?
I'd recommend starting with "What It Meant: The Complete Discography".

A dark theme should actually be, you know, dark:

God I really hate it when someone says:
The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.
