PIAS Germany is re-issuing these three very saught after titles over the next months - some for the first time on vinyl.

For me personally - these three are my favorite Bohren LPs!!

Before you ask - that information is directly from the label in a radio pool mailout.

That's fair.  Thanks man.  They think I have Coxsackie Virus now, conjointly with the scarlet fever rash.  I'm on high-dose antibiotics and now prednisone.  FML.

Yeah, I'd like to echo the sentiment that this is in no way a cash grab.  Hypothetically recording two new tracks onto a 7", throwing it exclusively into another reissue of their S/T, and charging double the normal price... would be an actual cash grab.  Musicians writing quality new music – even if it's 17 years later – is a very good thing.

I haven't really cared about them since Futures, which is a over a decade ago. So this band isn't really on my radar as far as new music goes. But I'll at least give the new album a shot when it drops. I really just need the first decade's worth of material.

Saw them play with Mamiffer on sunday. What a wonderful and crushing experience. Sumac played a 70min set comprising songs from albums. I was hoping to get some insight on what the hell is going on on these albums, but I guess I'm more bedazzled than I was beforehand. Either way, excellent show.
Mamiffer topped it all for me, though. So delicate and wondrous, they played almost all of The World Unseen with a very pregnant Faith Coloccia stealing all the bearded men's show. I could have gone all out on the merch table (Mamiffer had brought eight different LPs!), but went with World Unseen and a shirt. Go see them if you get the chance.

Posted this in the Hypercaffium thread, but thought I would add the picture here too. Only a few things missing and would love some help finding a copy of All on grey from the original '87 color pressing.

New kitty Spooky had his balls removed less than 12 hours ago. He has more energy right now than I have in a year.

But he's officially disease free and part of the family! He's been exploring the apartment and making the other cats very annoyed.

Well, yeah, lots of black copies! European distributor Cargo doesn't carry any of the other variants. Also, they're all out of clear with splatter, so if any of you order at a store that doesn't have it in stock, they're not gonna get it.

I initially reported some minor playback problems with my brown splatter copy which I am happy to declare resolved. After a thorough dry cleaning with the MoFi brush I went for another go-round before making the effort of a wet cleaning. Et voila, all problems were gone. There might have been a static problem since there wasn't a lot of dust to get out of the grooves to begin with and the MoFi brush is incredible at getting rid of that.

With that being said, I love the vinyl master of this album. I made an undesigned a to b comparison after listening to the ALAC files while cleaning and the record directly after that, both via headphones, and there's considerably more punch to the low end. It's almost punishing even on rather low volume. All in all, very happy with this album and the care/expertise put into the vinyl release.

Finally listened to this album the other day. I liked it. I wasn't blown away, but I definitely like it. Going to have to give it another listen. The riffs are definitely catchy (god damn that riff in 'Vorel'), but I was hoping for something a little heavier over all. It was a different pace with no interlude or 8 minute tracks which was interesting. The structure is there, it's dynamic, it blends and flows well,... I was just expecting something a little different I guess. It was a little on the short side at 40 minutes (at least it was longer that 'Memorial'). I think it could use one more song to round it out.

Maybe I just have Sumac and Bossk on the brain, and need a different mind set while giving this another listen.

    I'm sure a few more listens will make this from a 7 to a 8 - 8.5.

I probably sank a little more time than I should have into this effort, but I wanted to showcase my Chelsea Wolfe collection and plead that you guys chip in and help me fill in the last three pieces that I need to complete the set!

    A few nerdy notes:
The two Pendu presses of Apokalypsis can be told apart by the barcode on the back as well as the center labels.  The "barcode pressing" has slightly more yellowed center labels than the first press without the barcode. Recently, Abyss was repressed on clear and transparent blue vinyl.  These are actually entirely new pressings with new plates, jackets, etc.  The first four pressings are on reverse board jackets and have a note that says "C & P 2015 Sargent House" underneath the barcode, but the new pressings are just regular matte jackets without the C & P notice.  Also, the matrix and runouts are different.  If I had to guess, the first four pressings seem to be from Pirate's Press while the newer two look like they were pressed at either Raino or Erika. I got lucky and won the test for Pain Is Beauty on eBay...haven't seen any other tests of her stuff come up before or after that moment.  Sargent House and Pendu must've kept those very much in house.

There are certain reasons why the black variant has the potential to sound better than a splatter such as the inserted specks of color not being smashed down in the pressing of the LP which some have reported. I've not necessarily noticed that any of my splatter records are more prone to playback distortions over any black copies. For me, I like "generic" black because I quite plainly prefer the way a solid black record looks way over any of the colored variants. The blacker and shinier, the better. Most variants just look like cheap, gimmicky impersonations of a record. Black looks classic AND classy to me. I like the idea of my modern vinyl LP's with modern music on them having the look/texture of vintage records which were USUALLY all black. I never really came across crazily colored variants until I started building my own collection from scratch. My parent's records and all the classic presses of major albums in classic rock were mostly all black (yes, I know there are exceptions to that). I find it far more aesthetically pleasing to hold and watch the spin of a black record over any other color or color combination. Black is just fucking correct in my mind. I love it. There's just something about it. And frankly all the bickering over mockups and expectations for color combinations and "I ordered the bruise purple with electric yellow fart swirl and they sent me the red porcupine with H-colored dick shapes variant" bullshit just annoys the crap out of me so much that to avoid the whole tainted mess, I stick with black. The coolest color variant I have is probably the Young Widows Old Wounds amber with black skull shapes LP but that's enough for me.

Sound quality is first and foremost, I have many swirls and splatters that sound terrible. I'm well aware that color alone isn't to blame for many quality issues (I have enough black records that sound like crap too), but it is a factor.  Beyond any discussion of sound quality, I actually prefer the aesthetics of black vinyl. I don't find black to be "generic" and the variants "cooler" - Most of the time those swirls and splatters look terrible. Just give me a nice clean black copy.

    So far:

Cult of Luna and Julie Christmas - Mariner (probably my AOTY for the moment, it was totally unexpected since I've never really listened to any cult of luna record before. Besides, the final part of Chevron make me think about Mellon Collie era Smashing Pumpkins..is it just me?)
Astronoid - Air (as uplifting as metal can get)

Cobalt - Slow Forever (I had great expectations for this since Gin is one of my favourite metal records...and I wasn't let down. A relentless, crushing album. Erik Wunder is THE MAN).
Thrice - TBSITBN (another great comeback)
The Hotelier - Goodness (I loved Home and at first I was a bit disappointed by this one, but it grew a lot since the first listen and it keeps getting better)
Big Thief - Masterpiece (some of the best songs of the year: the band has something in their sound that makes me think of  Grant Lee Buffalo)
Psalm Zero - Stranger to Violence (as a fan of Extra Life, Charlie Looker's peculiar singing and metal I can't but LOVE this record)
The Body - No One deserves Happiness (the body never disappoints, but this might be their best)
Weezer - White Album (Weezer? In 2016?? Really??? Fuck yes.)
    Dalek - Asphalt for Eden
    Deftones - Gore
    Silvayne - Wistful
Say Anything - I don't think it is
    Ed Tullett - Fiancèe
Owen - the King of Whys
    Nothing - Tired of Tomorrow
Sophia - As We Make Our Way

Stuff I'm liking but I haven't listened to enough yet:
    Sumac
    Oranssi Pazuzu
    Radiohead
    Wreck and Reference
