Blumplum reacted to ethereal in Sylvan Esso - Echo Mountain Sessions
In April 2017 Sylvan Esso assembled a live band comprised of their close friends and collaborators- members of Mountain Man, Wye Oak, The Dead Tongues, The Mountain Goats and Megafaun- to arrange and record full-band versions of songs from their new album What Now. The band took this experiment to Echo Mountain Studios, located in the mountains of North Carolina, and cut five songs live in one day.
These limited edition vinyl copies of the Echo Mountain Sessions are only available from the Sylvan Esso webstore.
Digital download of audio will be sent on 7/28
LP version to be released on 10/20

I lovewhen people complain about MM, it makes me giggle.
To me it's just one less person I have to compete with to get my own copies!

It's an incredible soundtrack and the vinyl also comes with an awesome in-joke poster that'll make you laugh if you've seen the series.

Blumplum reacted to kylet in What's your White Whale record?
My angsty teenage self skipped buying this when it came out. I was pissed off that my favorite band put a record out on a major and "sold out". Years later I came to my senses and realized this is an awesome record. It's been a white whale of mine every since. Finally grabbed a copy of this for a decent price.

It's what non-members or members who are not signed in see. It's normal. And 100% @downisthenewup87
VMP was always going to face an uphill battle for release unique records given the vinyl resurgence, which is why they have moved away from describing their albums as 'essential'. The best albums out there are getting reissued or repressed by the bands and labels themselves. VMP tries to find some of those less known but loved albums to press, so they won't always be everyone's cup of tea (e.g., Panda Bear, Main Source, Nina Simone - still the best three month run from them in terms of small classics and quality, IMO).
Not everyone can afford a club to send them albums they may not like, and some don't see the value in paying for albums they may not like; that's completely fine and very understandable. Just don't jump down people's throats who enjoy the curation. If you go to a restaurant and order the prix fixe menu, do you then ask for substitions because they aren't serving your favorite steak? No. You pay for a service to curate something great for you. So far, VMP has done a very admirable job.

If you joined for Demon Days and need to vent about how your music taste is so narrow you can only enjoy commercialized cartoon music from when you were in High School please quietly evaporate with your memberships. Thanks.

Man if you just joined VMP to get re-releases of albums that everyone knows are great, I think you're going to be disappointed. The big draw for me was the discovery. It makes me feel like a kid again to discover a new artist, learn about their process, their story etc...
I actually think I'd leave VMP if they only released albums that were massive hits in their day.

And here I thought that the lackluster Morby announcement would stop the referral link thread lubrication.

I would encourage you to look through the previous months' archives to see that there are far more instances of Morby-caliber artists being featured versus ones on the level of Gorillaz and Fiona Apple:
