Edit: Captain is out of stock now. Now I'm wondering if it was either relisted by accident or it was indeed old stock from the 2020 pressing and they only had a handful left. Glad I ordered it if it really was available. But now I'm expecting an email from Dig saying that it wasn't really in stock.

I got an email from them stating the repress. Both my initial copy and replacement copy had the sound issue.
I had to send them videos of the issue.

Na, it's pretty bad. The first minute of the A/B sides have a horrible static noise. VMP have acknowledged there is an issue, they think it was a stamper problem. They are going to repress. 

Great question! Around the time this came out my friend worked at Doghouse who was like tight with Vagrant people. He gave me a cdr of the demos like in the early 2000s but I can’t find it. 
 
They’ve gotta be on the internet somewhere I’ll see if I can track down! They are just really great, like unpolished versions of the tunes. I personally always loved this LP and I actually attribute it to being a little sloppy and part of that is Skibas vocals.  

This article explains it well. He was very sick and pressed on with recording. I would have loved to hear those songs recorded at full vocal strength.

This. If the original recording sounded bad, any reproduction is going to sound bad. This album will never be an “audiophile experience.”

I got the recent EU RSD press and thought it sounded pretty good. I never thought the CD sounded great in the first place tbh.

My copy has a tolerable level of noise for a $25 release. Since it's a nearly $50 release from VMP, I find it unacceptable.
