I am not sympathetic to misgendered people wanting to be called whatever they want. I see the world in many shades of grey and can see both sides of pretty much any argument. But when I see white, and someone tells me that it is in fact black because they choose to be black I disregard them as being crazy to keep my own sanity. Maybe I am just a rube/idiot/bigot, and if so then so be it. Sometimes I feel like we have come a long way as a human race and have a long ways to go, and sometimes I feel like we are too PC for our own good.

I do not discriminate or try to put anyone down, and wish and hope for everyone to live their life as they choose as long as it does not hurt myself or others.

To say "it" is just hurtful and mean and I do not see any humor in it.

tooclosetosee reacted to steventangent in $150 Audiophile Turntable: This could be interesting
I have trouble seeing why anybody should care. The word "audiophile," as I mentioned earlier, is completely watered down by this point. It should really truly only mean those people for whom sound quality is something they pursue in their life to the point of being an obsessive hobby.

I love music, I have a pretty sweet record collection, I want things to sound good, but if I have a setup that sounds good to my ears, why should I give a shit if someone else says it's not good enough? And why should anybody else get their panties in a bunch over the gear that I like to use?

I can't remember if it was in this thread, or on another board, but somewhere I saw some discussion about people saying, "I just hate the idea of people buying these and going on about how great their system sounds." Something like that, in short. And I can't help but wonder why in the god damn ever loving hell anybody should give a shit! It's like when you bring up Beats by Dre gear to tr00 audiophiles. You wanna see a dude blow his top...

All that said, I don't have the money to throw at this right now. If I did, I'd consider it as a "bedroom" turntable. I'm one of those terrible non-audiophile types that likes having an auto return on my turntable, though, and this one doesn't have it. Because I like to listen to my records as I fall asleep sometimes.

God bless audiophiles, though. Someone has to be concerned about audio quality, as more and more people seem to accept shittier and shittier sounding music these days.

I want to pay for music. Paying for a CD is like paying for a small amount of garbage, and paying for digital downloads is like paying to name a star.

Alright, I'm going to have to ask that you step away from the computer right now. There is no reason to get snippy. Were people making jokes? Yes. Were people genuinely trying to help? The answer here is also yes.
Your question is confusing as hell and probably wasn't completely thought out/composed well. That is no reason to freak out.
You've gotten a few helpful suggestions, try looking into the problem more because your question really did not make any sense.

Lol IMO that is not a cover, that is a copy

This is a crappy unpopular band jumping on the back of a popular bands song playing it note for note hoping to gain some public exposure along the way. Except in this case it doesn’t work because their version is much, much crappier. Why would I listen to this crappy version when I could just as well listen to the much better original version?

IMO a great example of a quality “cover” is The Atari’s Boys of Summer, who don’t just “copy” the song and actually make their own stylized new sounding version. Smooth Criminal by AAF is another good example. The songs sound redone, covered. And it’s because people actually PREFER their new style of the song over the originals, that’s why The Atari and Alien Ant Farm versions got so much airtime.

This is just a crappy band trying to hope they get face time by playing a popular Brand New song and putting their name on it.

I gave up on the whole "collecting" of records a while ago. It was expensive and time consuming and pretty much pointless. Usually just buy one copy for every album that I want now. Any more I just get black to keep things simple. Sometimes I will get a cool color if I feel like it. Sometimes I get the rarest variant because I think I am cool for doing so. It all just depends on how I am feeling that day.

One of my 3 year olds favorite 7"s is my copy of The Mob "Step Forward". I've been offered 150 for it. I let him put it on and off and place the needle. Nothing about that record (one of my favs) has ever given me more satisfaction than sharing it with him. Maybe Im nuts but I know 99% of folks on here wouldn't let their kid do that to a "valuable" record. They really mean shit without the sentimental value they accrue from connection to the music or object and sentimental value doesn't accrue in a frame or unplayed on a shelf. This shit has been stated way too often. Buy for the music and sell if you don't listen to it and all will be well in the music world.

A fifteen year old Australian boy didn't know where to purchase a replacement needle for his Crosley turntable. Instead of searching the internet for a solution, he searched the internet for a place to ask the question on the internet. He found VC and asked the people of this internet forum where to find said needle. As a result, the people of this internet forum gave their opinions of the Crosley turntables while attempting to answer his question. This spawned another internet war of words on the internet.

In a surprising twist, it turns out that Crosley has a website on the internet and they sell replacement needles for their products from...you guessed it...the internet.

So, what is really going on here, you ask??

Get stuff for free, pay people minimum wage, sell stuff for profit. Laugh all the way to the bank. Since finding out about this I either throw stuff away, give it away to friends and family, or sell it on craigslist. The way I see it is that goodwill is just a bunch of craigslist flippers but has the people trained to bring in the stuff for them.

To shed some perspective on the whole 2-3 months salary thing.. That tradition started as more of a way to show financial stability and fiscal responsibility, whether to your parter or to her family. Similar concept of a dowry way back when brides were a negotiated commodity. A way of showing a father that you can provide for his little girl.
The tradition of a bride price is absurd but the sentiment behind being able to spend 2-3 months pay on a ring isn't so bad IMO. The idea isn't to just go and drop 25% of your yearly income and then be broke.. The idea is to save that amount and be able to comfortably spend it without feeling the hit of dropping that much coin. Starting a marriage in debt is a) not that fun and b ) probably a given, but with responsible saving/spending practices it can be easily overcome. My wife and I have a goal of having a savings account with 6 months of combined pay as an emergency fund. Are we there yet? No. But we will be by the end of 2014 because we've set measured and attainable savings goals over the last two and a half years.
I'm not saying you should spend 2-3 months pay on a ring. If your gal doesn't need a big status symbol like that on her finger- more power to her, but to be able to say, "get the one you really want" is pretty fucking cool (It's also cool when the one she really wants ends up costing $3,000 less than you've saved and you can put that towards something else like a downpayment on a house).
Anyway- long post to say that my marital advice is based on the concept of fiscal responsibility. I realize this concept has no place on a board built around this hobby, but for what it's worth- a solid savings plan may prohibit you from having absolutely everything you want, but at the end of the day it makes you feel really good when something comes up to be able to turn to your wife and say, "we can afford it," or "we're gonna be ok."
