I was gonna come in here and talk about how awesome Lauren Records and this record is but then I saw I already did.

It's like if Rivers Cuomo and Beck both got the same prompt to make a party/fun album and one of them went and put together this fun collage of classic pop melodies and sounds and the other plastered a few semi-interesting vocal melodies over thin, undercooked songs. It feels in the same world but opposite ends on the spectrum of quality.

I keep reading that acronym as Up Get Kids.

When they say "shipping begins soon" do they mean "there will be a secret 2nd full length included and a slip with a pre-order code for a 3rd secret full length inside"?

I dig the album. It is a pretty straight-forward party pop album but with just enough Beck musical touches (and, of course, his distinctive voice) to keep me happy. At a certain point, you just have to give in and enjoy it. It's well made. Now, if Beck was my favorite musician of all time and I expected greatness from him, I'd probably be bummed that he waited two years to release this fun but disposable pop album instead of sneaking it out with Morning Phase as a 'bonus' full length.

I've given myself permission to enjoy Beck's new mindless party pop persona. There is enough Beck there for these songs to not veer all the way over the edge of annoying and banal and, at their best moments, the songs are pretty fun and catchy. Stereogum's review strikes me as more of an attempt to get in the first hot take and stir up some advertising revenue than a serious critique of the album. I'm eager to hear the full thing and see how that changes the context of the first 3-4 released songs.

Yeah, that was a nice surprise. I just bought the Owen/Colossal split a few days ago as well, so very coincidental too.

I fit 30 cassettes per drawer but I made the mistake of "locking" the drawers so they don't pull out all the way. If you don't "lock" them and let the drawers pull out completely, it should hold closer to 45 cassettes per drawer. As far as I know, this is the only size for the Helmer. I didn't see a larger version.

Thanks to those who recommend the IKEA Helmer. I picked one up this weekend and threw my cassettes in there. Big tip to anyone else who does the same, do NOT push in the tabs that keep the drawers from slipping out. If you do, you'll block a good 1/3rd of the potential cassette space from being visible and you'll have to do what I did which was add a back stopper to keep the cassettes in place. Other than that slight mistake, I'm super happy with this as a larger storage option. Thanks again for the recommendation.

I am with you here but I did like the Blue Bucket of Gold remix (not on this comp but released a while back) and I'm hoping these are close to that. Normally, remixes are terrible, boring, repetitive, etc.

My side C on the red soundtrack is a bit noisy but not enough to deal with a return/replacement. All in all, I've been very very happy with both official soundtracks and the Windswept supplemental soundtrack. They've definitely reminded me of how much I enjoyed the series and how much thought went into the music and song selections. The trope of having a band play a song at the Roadhouse at the end of each episode was very interesting and flavored the show really well.

Not as bad as the first 3 songs but it still sounds like a song written for a made-for-Netflix Adam Sandler movie. Not good.

I got a black copy of CSD for $35 on Discogs about a year and a half ago. I bought it like 2 seconds after it popped up in my Items You Want list.

If your collection is small and you don't want to spend over $100, Kallax is the best option. Or anything similar that you might see at Wal Mart or Target. You can waste a lot more money on shelves/storage that look uglier and are flimsier. If your budget is $800+, then get a nice piece of wooden furniture from a local shop or woodworker. I've seen some really gorgeous pull out shelves that double as record storage and record player surface on Etsy and by googling around. Having a budget for legit awesome furniture is the only reason I'd avoid a Kallax.
