Exactly my thoughts on this.

I agree the board is really offputting these days, but I'm not so sure any action should be taken other than people growing up. Be the change you want to see. Maybe make a global announcement about not being a dick and reminding everybody that vinyl was new to all of us at one time or another. While something may seem trivial to some of us, it may not be so obvious to others.
 
New users come here with a genuine interest in vinyl, perhaps post a "ridiculous" question by many of our standards, and are subsequently mocked off the board. It's fucking stupid. If you know the answer to somebody's question, no matter how much of a given it may seem to be, what's the harm in answering it? It seems that too many threads these days seems to get derailed and turn into an unnecessary spam contest, with the same handful of users contaminating them all.
 
That said, I think making it invite only would be terrible for the "community". It's crazy how few people from just a couple years ago are even still active, this would only serve to further inhibit the board's growth, which would in turn make the incessant spamming of a select few even more of a bother.

I've been on the keto diet since June, and I've lost 62 pounds. It's completely changed my life for the better. I was at near-diabetic bloodsugar levels and that has gone down, I'm confidently down a size in underwear, pants and button-up shirts... It's awesome.

You guys think the issue here is with people that have under 100 posts???  I cant be the only one that thinks the issue here is with a handful of guys that have well over 1000 posts that do annoying shit, change the topic of threads completely, bitch about everything, think they are better than everyone else and make this place a complete clusterfuck.

I didn't read the entire thread because I hate this idea too much and had to reply.  I think the invite idea not only boasts an elitist attitude but really isn't even logical.  I didn't know anyone on this board when I joined and thus would never have received an invite.  Go to VLV for that shit.
 
Which brings me to my next point that we were all new once, we shouldn't be fearing new members but embracing them.  Yes the annoying ones can stand out, but all the new members who bring good things to the board probably go unnoticed as "new members".  I mean it's easy to see a post that is irritating, look at the member and say "great another newb comment", but how often do you read a normal or helpful post and say "damn that user must be a veteran".  Not to mention there are plenty of annoying members who have been here quite a while.
 
I didn't see the thread that contained the spawn of this debate, and Ry Bread I'm sure you brought this up with the best intentions, but I truly feel it will cause much more harm than good.
 
Also, if we limit new members actions to a post count or something all we'll see is an influx of worthless posts while trying to build your post count.

Have you ever been through the criminal system for being raped? In my state, less than 2% of charges of rape brought to the police end in the case being brought to court. Well less than half of those end in the perp being convicted. Not to mention that the victim gets dragged through the mud, everyone questions every decision in her life she ever made, and god forbid she has ever had sex before, because that alone will make her a slut in the public eye. She will have to relive it numerous times in court, to lawyers, have it picked apart by the defense attorney. She will have to spend close to two years in the legal system with absolutely no help at all on how to fill out the paperwork correctly, unless she hires a lawyer. If she is selling zines at shows, something tells me she probably isnt rolling in the money to afford a lawyer that can help her on this.

Perhaps she wanted to make things seem as normal as possible to try and survive the event and not end up with her head kicked in. Dont even pretend to know what it is like to be a rape survivor unless you are one, and even then you cant fault any of their decision making.

I have always thought Morrison  was a bad wrestler but a great "mover". He could pull off incredible looking things, but in the span of a match they had no place and never looked like they would even hurt the other guy. Yeah the Starship Pain looked cool, but he never really hit the opponent, and when he did Im still not sure how it was supposed to hurt him. Kofi at least can make a few things look like a wrestling move and not some ballet moves like JoMo.

For those who don't know, I am a molecular biologist in a cancer research center, in a regional hospital system that covers many patients who are popular on the VC boards as well as many more that aren't known by any board. I don't really talk openly about my job in here because there's no real need to, but lot of people here tend to have questions (or in some cases, diagnosis) about what I do for a living, so let this thread be a catch-all. Travis isnt going around making threads to have us all ask him questions about HT. I personally hate HT and dont buy from them, but Travis is also a good dude who works there. I put HT and Alt Press on the same level of shittiness, but at least Travis is a great guy who isnt looking for attention that he works there while Scott will drop this knowledge every few months. AND he calls out Allison for making a "look at me thread" and then does the same thing with this, after no one cared about the idea when he mentioned it in another thread. We get it Scott, you work for a crappy mag, get to write crappy reviews about crappy music and get a few perks out of the system.
