  1. . You really should check out other Sunny Day. My faves are Diary and How It Feels... I thought this new song was weak compared to earlier material.
  2. I found the OFF! 45 on the Amoeba site. One good thing in a sea of mediocrity for RSD 2014. Hope next year is more interesting.
  3. All of these variants look pretty boring compared to the mock ups. I hope the EU version looks somewhat interesting. I fucking hate grey. Sounds fine though and this album is finally starting to grow on me.
  4. Very excited to not have to spend 100 plus for Grime!
  5. Went over to friends' house recently and they apparently inherited their Aunt's record collection a while back. They don't care too much about the records, sometimes they listen, but it's more sentimental than complete appreciation for the records. Half way through I had to stop looking, as it was too painful to see all of the titles in amazing condition. Just saw stuff that you rarely see like almost every record on Black Jazz Records, early Bergenfield pressing Prestige records, lots of Latin jazz, though no Blue Note that I have seen so far. I'm afraid to see what else is in there. They did end up giving me a deep groove mono copy of "Kirk's Work" by Roland Kirk with Jack McDuff. Hopefully they will be kind enough to kick down some more.
  6. The show last night in Oakland was damn good. Keith did his usual ranting, which I like because then the song explodes and it's like the peak of his angst. They had the red records at the show and many t-shirts. Totally recommend getting there early to see NSU and Cerebral Ballzy. CB was a nice surprise. They had a pink 45 and an awesome Bart Simpson shirt that is both ugly and cool. It was a very solid show.
  7. Definitely would never put them in the southern rock category. Anyway, I'm tempted to buy this ridiculous waste of my money, considering I have pretty much all of their albums. CCR is just that fucking great.
  8. Gilman is in the East Bay, not San Francisco. It's fucking annoying when some band comes to town and plays Oakland and says, "What's up San Francisco!" Fuck you. If there are hipsters over here it's because they are leaking in from the City. People in the East Bay are for real. Just good people enjoying the better weather, plenty of parking, and all the good music. Yes, I am biased.
  9. This is exactly what I suspect. I've been getting all the updates about Eddie's shows in Brazil or wherever and for some reason I didn't get this one? I got lucky with the Sevens set, so I guess I can't complain too much, but I will.
  10. Mine finally showed up. Same faint streaking with a more prominent bluish black streak. Very cool to be able to listen to this on the turntable.
  11. Here's some good stuff by Julius Watkins on Blue Note. I've always wanted to pick up Vol. 1 and 2. I think they were originally on 10"? http://youtu.be/xy-gO9u7SQ0 EDIT: Can someone tell me how to get a video to show up in the post? I use to be able to do it.
  12. Just saw Sharon Jones in SF this weekend. WOW! For anyone who hasn't seen her yet, you have to go. I was so damn tired that night and really just wanted to sit in the back somewhere, but my wife wanted to be upfront. I ended up dancing the whole time and then got on stage with a bunch of people to dance. I even danced with one of the back up singers and I don't usually dance. Sharon Jones is a fireball of energy. Truly one of the greatest performers I have ever seen.
  13. Mingus was punk. He really didn't give a fuck. Same for Miles, plus he was a boxer and could punch you in the face.
  14. If we already bought a test press will we still be getting one of these numbered covers? Thanks- Falin
  15. Thanks, Axis. This is the only thing that looked remotely interesting for RSD. The $10 shipping sucks, but better than standing in line all morning if they decide to release it for US RSD. Very worth it.
  16. I refused to get into jazz for the longest time because I knew it would be complicated and confusing at times. That is exactly what has made it fun. My entry was through funky soul jazz. I personally love horns, but that doesn't mean you can't still dig jazz without a lot of brass work. There is also crazy bop horns and more mellow horns. If you want mellow, try giving Kind of Blue or Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis a try. Lots of grooving organ work by Jimmy Smith, Charles Kynard, and Big John Patton to name a few. My fav pianists are Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, and Andrew Hill. Monk plays some wacky shit. Getting into jazz would be like getting into rock. Just dive in. After experimentation you will find players you like and it will be fun to hunt down other releases they are on that aren't their own.
  17. Yeah, I was nervous when I ordered and wasn't directed to the Paypal site. I had to check my account with them and make sure the order went through. Before they went up, I was checking their site a couple times a day for the PO and writing them emails because I didn't want to miss out on this one. I would guess that only the black would make it to the US. Shipping was a bitch, but will be worth it. Does anyone know if he ever tours or is it just a project?
  18. Well that explains the awesome selection of shit that I always see at thrift stores! Like others have said, only Graveface for me.
  19. Still waiting on my first and second order, maybe they will ship together. Pressing info: 300 White 200 Black Transitional streaked mixed in 500 Total If you ordered two you should get one black and one white. For single orders, white went to those with zips ending in an odd number, black with even.
